Nobel Prize for Young Africans?

I am overwhelmed with joy as I emerged as one of the outstanding young African journalists of the year at the Future Awards Africa 2025 held at Landmark Event Centre. This is an honour that goes beyond Nigeria but to the entire continent of over 50 countries.

Sharing the stage with the likes of Yousra Elbagir, a celebrated Sudanese journalist at Sky News (UK) and 2016 Thompson Foundation Young Journalists Award winner, is truly an honour. I am humbled to be among such talented individuals!

I dedicate this award to the voiceless and oppressed people in rural Gombe, who continue to struggle for access to quality education, clean water, and accountable leadership. I also dedicate it to the oppressed everywhere in Nigeria, Palestine, and beyond, whose stories remind us why journalism must remain a force for truth and justice.

My sincere gratitude goes to The Future Project for recognising and celebrating the important work I am doing at Halal Reporters to amplify solutions and drive social change. I am honoured to be recognised for my efforts at such a young age.

And to Ikulajolu Oloye Adesola, a senior colleague at the BBC in Lagos for representing me at the dinner and awards night, despite your tight schedules, particularly monitoring the 2025 Anambra guber polls, thank you.

To my fellow awardees, congratulations as we join the elite group of young African leaders.

Thank you, and good evening.

I emerged runner-up in Solutions Journalism category at @budgitng Active Citizens Awards 2023 held at Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos. by @i_m_auwal

Alhamdu lilLah it has landed

Delighted to have been awarded with a certificate of merit for being a finalist (nominee) in the ICTs and Telecommunications category of the prestigious West African Media Excellence Conference and Awards (WAMECA) 2021 held at Alisa hotel, Accra, Ghana.

My appreciation goes to my father for picking up the award at Stratton hotel, FCT Abuja, on my behalf yesterday, being Monday out of his tight schedules.

I will also extend my appreciation to the Media Foundation For West Africa for organizing such award to honour journalists who have crossed the boundary of excellence in West Africa and same goes to the jury for finding my story worthy of the shortlist out of over 700 entries from the region.

My appreciation also goes to Ms. Adiza of MFWA for bringing this award to Abuja, Nigeria all the way from Accra, Ghana for me. My father has also told me that you have reiterated to him that I contested with some of the best journalists in West Africa. I really appreciate all of you.

Now, to my publishers who have given me the platform to publish my work, thank you all.

Reporter’s Diary: Flying High to Win a SoJo Award in Lagos

By Muhammad Auwal Ibrahim

By the grace of Almighty Allah, I returned to campus on Sunday night and sat for my examination on Monday. I eventually earned an A in the course. I was delighted. Not only had I attended the award ceremony, but I had also returned to fulfil my academic responsibilities.
