Walking the hallways of memory.

It’s hard to wrap my head around the fact that last October we left for South America with no real plans other than returning to Argentina to pick up where we’d left off all those years ago.

We ended up staying for six deeply nourishing months, making our way through Argentina, Uruguay, Peru, and Colombia. An unconscious attempt at completing the loop we started years ago, when this path was only just beginning to make sense. Funny how life works like that.

And today, our first full month in Japan. A place that couldn’t be more different. But maybe it’s just the change I need.

Sous le feu des projecteurs, la ville la plus baroque des Pouilles invite à un nécessaire pas de côté. Peut-être celui hérité de la tarentelle, danse typique de ce sud de l’Italie si ardent. Gentille mais sur ses gardes, elle joue à se faire désirer, incite à chercher plus loin : au-delà de la blondeur de sa pierre tendre, de nuit, dans une trattoria à la « cucina povera » généreuse et volubile… Pour mieux nous perdre et nous retrouver.

Lecce se cache pour dormir seule.

On this day ten years ago I packed up all my things and hit the road, @joemanderton by my side.

Even before then, something deep inside me knew I was never meant to stick around. Settling down felt more like dying slow. I craved motion, the challenge of someplace new, a different way of existing.

That same restlessness still consumes me today. I feel most myself when life is in transit. I no longer try to explain it or question it.

My photography naturally became part of it all. The photos I take are mine to keep. A visual record of time and place. My own mark in a life made up of borrowed places.

Today I packed the suitcase tight again. Back to Istanbul, a city built upon passage, which feels pretty fitting before we drift down yet another unknown road.

There have been years where everything clicked, and years I’m still trying to understand.

Some places forced me to question who I was, others told me I was right where I belonged.

I still don’t know where it all leads. Maybe I never will.

Ten years following one instinct: just go.

It was new years eve and it felt as though Cusco had bloomed overnight. Beautiful flower vendors lined the cobblestone streets, with their colorful tarps and blankets at every corner, scattered with loose petals and magnificent bouquets in every shade of yellow, pinks, and green.

I burned through the rest of my film much faster than I’d planned, my head full of wonder. Just before leaving, I used my last few pesos to buy a small bag of the tiny yellow petals and a stick of palo santo. Protection, abundance, momentum, and clarity. I think it was the only way to leave such a place, and to carry that feeling with me beyond Peru for whatever was to come.

Morocco. Bouquets of mint, 4 a.m. calls to prayer, sun baked streets and sleepy mules. A maze of the mind within its fragile walls, earths palette faded into heavily salted air. And on every tabletop and in each corner shop, little round loaves of bread.

A bit from my first time here, on a month-long journey by bus, train, and car. Three years later, remembered like yesterday
