🌿Caffeine and stress - not a great pairing!

🌿If you are feeling stressed and also consume caffeinated beverages regularly, you might be making things worse with this habit because caffeine arouses the body, removes the signal of tiredness and reduces your ability to sleep deeply, so you are depleating the body even further.

🌿So what can you do? You can work on reducing your caffeine intake gradually by replacing your cup of coffee with other beverages such as...

🌸If you like black teas - try rooibos

🌸If you like lighter tea - herbal mixed teas such as lemon mint

🌸If you like milky coffee - try chicory or barley powder with coconut milk

🌿Other tips - hydrate well - especially first thing in the morning:
✔️water with lemon juice
✔️celery juice
✔️celery/cucumber/green apple

🌿Reduce or even remove caffeine from your system and within 2 weeks you will notice your real energy come back. by @iamandreagordon

🌸Do you know your own speed limit?
And do you respect it?

🌸Stress can make us speed up throughout the day driving us to rush through every little activity and wearing us down - but it doesn't have to be that way! Take your time, do things at the right pace for you, and notice the difference. You have the time NOT to rush.

🌸The concept of your own speed limit is mentioned in the lovely book "Why we Meditate" by Daniel Goleman and Tsoknyi Rinpoche. Definitely worth reading if you want to delve deeper into meditation, mindfulness and a calmer mind. by @iamandreagordon

🌿Self care is a much talked about subject but it is still often misunderstood.

🌿Self care activities are those that replenish your source of inner energy. Therefore, a massage or bubble bath are not universal self care - because it goes beyond the physical and is different from person to person.

🌿Today I invite you to think about what you can do to support your own inner source.... This can take many forms....

🌸Respecting your inner voice:
Not going to that party or dinner that you don't feel like going to.... Or going to that party to connect with friends, fun and laughter!

🌸Time alone:
Spending a few hours getting pampered in a spa... or going hiking in nature and enjoying the exercise and muscle effort.

🌸Have fun:
Going to a new exercise class... or meeting up with your close friend for dinner.

🌸Getting some rest:
Sleeping in and having a lazy morning... or going to bed early after reading a good book.

🌿We are all different and have different needs but everyone needs to replenish regularly. Unfortunately, most women tend to put themselves last and end up exhausted, so if you are a tired woman, you need to start with this.

🌿Self care is not a luxury, it is essential. by @iamandreagordon

🌟The third pillar in the easy & simple things you can do to support your body during periods of stress is to reduce your transit time. It's important to work towards a shorter time - generally full digestion of standard eating habits with gluten, meat, etc, will be 24h - 48h. Ideally it should be not much more than 24h. An easy way to discover yours is to eat corn and monitor how many hours it takes to go through your system.

🌟Another important aspect is to go at least twice per day, as once is still considered constipated except if you only eat once per day.

🌟Below are some tips to reduce your time - most have to do with fiber:

✔️Eat a medium size carrot before lunch to support the gut bacteria.

✔️Have salad before your meals rather than after to get the gut going.

✔️Eat a few servings of raw vegetables/fruits daily and try to eat at least 5 different types daily.

✔️There are PREbiotics (to feed the bacteria - onions, pulses, cabbage...) and PRObiotics (to grow the population of the bacteria - fermented foods like yogurt, kimchi, kombucha, etc.). Try to include both.

✔️Eat pulses such as beans, peas, lentils, etc. at least 2x week. Cooked or sprouted...

✔️Psyllium husk can help when getting started . Start easy: 1-2 teaspoons in a large glass of water, mix & drink before it gets too thick, have it before bed so it can work during the night.

✔️An apple on a empty stomach in the morning before breakfast gets the system cleansed and boosted. An apple a day is literally going to keep you healthier.

🌟And the 5 paths that the body uses to releases toxins and waste are as follows - see where you can support your elimination:

1) Feces - digestive system
2) Urine - urinary system
3) Sweat - glands/lymphatic system
4) Breath - respiratory system
5) Menses - reproductive system

🌟All systems work in coordination to protect your body - aren't we a fantastic miracle? by @iamandreagordon

🌺When the going gets tough, what are easy and simple ways to improve your eating & nutrition during periods of high stress?

🌺Below are 5 tips I hope are helpful:

1) Have a late breakfast - or skip it, if not hungry. The later you have your first full meal, the more time you give your liver to cleanse, a happy liver is essential for a good mood!

2) Stay hydrated - not all water is the same - opt for natural mineral water, natural coconut water or water with a pinch of sea salt to deeply hydrate & balance your electrolites. We are electric beings.

3) Increase vitamin C - to support immunity and collagen production - lemon is your friend - put juice on your salad or smoothie, add slices to your water, drink lemon water upon waking. Lemon is THE powerhouse.

4) Focus on magnesium - enjoy at least two magnesium rich foods daily like leafy greens, almonds, pumkin seeds, bananas or avocado. You cannot relax deeply without it.

5) Eat slowly - when we eat calmly, we chew more and absorb more nutrients, so take a minute and enjoy your food. The difference between a gulped down meal and one that your enjoy is a body that is saciated.

🌺Try a few of these for a week and notice the difference - it may even help feel less stressed. by @iamandreagordon

🌸High stress for a longer period of time? Consider focusing on the basics - sleep is number 1!

🌸Sleep is one of the most underrated and easy health interventions that we have at our disposal and is essential for our mental health and overall wellbeing.

🌸Our brains cleanse at night - usually between 10pm and 2am - which is why going early to bed is more restorative than sleeping in.

🌸To give your body the best quality rest:

✔️Get at least 6h of sleep per night
✔️Go to bed by 10pm
✔️Sleep in a dark, cool room
✔️Have a light & early dinner
✔️Sleep in natural fibers (avoid polyester sleepwear and bedding)
✔️Stop all screens 2h before bedtime
✔️Do some breathwork before sleep to relax your nervous system
✔️Think loving & positive thoughts before falling asleep to enjoy gentle dreams.

🌸Do at least 3 of the above for 5 nights and you will notice the difference.

🌟What do you do when you have a longer period of stress or high pressure?

👆Focus on getting the basics right! Support your body and the rest will follow.

🌟Here are my three top priorities for periods when there is no time for anything!!

1. Quality of sleep
Focus on getting enough of it and protect its quality by avoiding caffeine after 2pm, reading (rather than scrolling) before bed, no food 2h before bed and going to bed early whenever possible. This will make you more productive.

2. Quality of food
A busy and stressful time might make you want to go for unhealthy comfort foods but do not give in! Eat good food, real meals and avoid sugar, sweets and baked goods that will make your energy surge and then crash. Good food will help you concentrate.

3. Speed of transit
Support your body's elimination - some things are better eliminated as soon as possible - eat raw fruits, reduce gluten, have prunes and high fiber foods like carrots, cabbage, beans and pulses and drink water. This will help you think clearer.

🌟Go step by step - choose one thing to improve at a time - you will start to feel more optimism, have more energy and be in a better mood. Remember: a healthy mind lives in a healthy body. by @iamandreagordon
