My cup of gratitude for this team and this piece runneth over. Today we officially get to share this delicacy with the world.
I’m so beyond proud to play with this utterly magnificent cast.
Beaming, to be a sunflower to the sun that is the audience Rachel Chavkin draws into her pieces, with a panache and gentleness more magical than anything I have ever been blessed to experience. It truly feels sacred.
The language of movement created by visionary Reshma Gajjar, with her wondrous and kind associate Miles Crawford, is singular and profound.
The total awe I felt seeing Mimi Lien’s beautifully crafted set for the first time, was like stepping into a photorealistic Bombay, every detail holding such care, down to the puja shelf, that literally stopped me in my tracks as if I was inside my own grandmother’s kitchen.
Every part of this process, and every person involved has shown up with such integrity, and talent, unlike anything I have ever been a part of. I could write lines between lines between lines about every person in this room.
The orchestration of this show somehow holds both expanse and specificity, it is cinematic and deeply personal, like hearing memory itself arranged into sound. To sing and live inside this one-in-a-million-and-one score and libretto crafted by Daniel & Patrick Lazour, & Ritesh Batra is like putting on the most perfectly fitted and gratifying pair of gloves.
At the heart of it all is Ritesh’s original film, the beautiful brainchild that became the catalyst for this entire journey.

It’s Love, It’s Life, It’s Lunch.

Happy Birthday to ME! Felt cute, may delete later…

Real talk though, and a bit of verbal diarrhea - I grew up thinking that speaking too much about achievements or accomplishments is a form of narcissism, and one’s own joy can be percieved as selfish. Maybe it stems from the idea of “nazar” or the evil eye, coupled with self doubt or imposter syndrome, and a bit of the “don’t believe the hype, don’t believe the censure” mentality. SO, I have had a hard time accepting praise in the past, though I truly appreciated it, and I tend to respond with self deprecation, or weird silly gestures, but if you don’t value yourself, no one will. You get what you give. Who knew?? As I grow older, if I can’t enjoy the wins, and can’t look back and embrace my own achievements, then what’s the point? At the end of the day, I love making art, whenever I get the opportunity to do it, and if people enjoy it wonderful, and if they don’t, I’m still allowed to, and I can bask in it. I want to start celebrating things that feel like memorable achievements to me, in a more unfiltered way…regardless of preconceived applause or rebuke. SO this is me, celebrating ME, and I’ll drink to that 🤪.
Cover photo is unbridled 3rd birthday energy, AND after much persuasion from friends and fam, I’m finally sharing this vid of that time I was Patti Lupone’s understudy in “Company” on Broadway circa 2021. Swings and understudies have some of the hardest jobs in show biz. The pandemic year + should have made that fact abundantly clear if it wasn’t before, and I will never stop giving them their flowers. Also, covering a literal theatre icon will have the most heroic human quaking in their boots, so when I’m feeling blah about life, I watch this vid, and it gives me an extra push to seize the day because YUP, I did that, and I get to be obsessed with myself sometimes. 💥…🤭 (insert weird self deprecating gestures).

Our first film together!!! Such an incredible gift to have all four of us included as a small part of this absolutely hilarious and heartfelt movie. Aaliya! What an incredible three years of Middle School you have had! From standout performances in shows and choir, to your dedication to your education, friends, and family, we are so proud to see you move through life with heart, talent, and quiet determination.
