Ten years ago, I didn’t know I would build an AI beauty app. I only knew there was a problem I wanted to solve.

As a working makeup artist, personalization is what I do every day. No two women enter my chair exactly the same. I consider your complexion, undertone, skin, eye and face shape, lifestyle, what you own, where you’re going and what you feel comfortable wearing. Then I translate years of experience into one answer: “Here’s what will work for you.”

But I could only do that for one woman at a time.

For years, I wondered: How can I give women personalized beauty guidance when I’m not physically beside them?

Then AI changed what was possible.

I’m only one person, but this technology gave me a way to help women worldwide. It could learn, remember and connect information to personalize an experience that felt closer to what happens between me and my clients.

My eight-year vision became possible, and two years ago, we began building Elegant.

For me, AI isn’t replacing the artist.
It’s extending the artist’s reach.

Elegant @elegantbeautyapp combines the expertise I’ve gained working with real women, real faces, complexions, undertones, features and beauty needs, then translates it into guidance that meets you in your beauty room.

Through personalized product recommendations, routines, step-by-step techniques, visual inspiration and ideas created for your features, Elegant makes understanding your beauty easier.

You have celebrity makeup artist expertise with you as you choose foundation, discover your eyeshadow colors, prepare for an important moment or learn what works for your face.

I wanted to put that artist in your pocket.

Making the process of finding your needs is new, exciting and inspiring, and here on @iambobbieriley, I’ll take you behind the scenes as I explore the connection between beauty, AI and the work I’ve spent my career developing.

Spending the evening with NAMI & @maybelline left me all smiles. So proud to be in a room full of people who care deeply about mental health awareness.

Watching the one night only performance of “This Is Crazy” with actors like Natasha Rothwell and Marisa Tomei made me feel so many things: speechless, seen, empathetic. I’ve battled with my mental health and watched family and friends do the same through life’s many challenges, so this one hit close to home. It felt like a way to honor my late friend, who passed from suicide years ago.

When people hear “AI” they think chatbot or some surreal filter…..This is neither. Elegant is built on real knowledge, real research, and 15 years of paying attention.

When I thought years ago about what I wanted to make in this world, it wasn’t another product. It was the future of beauty. Something that creates less waste, more understanding and brings the joy back into something that’s always lit me up.

I took the biggest pain point of every woman I know and turned it into access, right at your fingertips.

Sometimes the life you’ve already built becomes the seed for the life you’ve always dreamed of. 🤎

I didn’t have investors, a big budget or proof that any of this would work. I had the money I earned through my artistry, an idea that had followed me for years and a decision to bet on myself. That decision turned a night on a couch into the beginning of Elegant.
