Currently developing Makkin - the cardboard construction toy

I’ve been developing a new toy called Makkin.

It’s a construction system that lets kids build anything they can imagine using cardboard, nuts, bolts, and a punch tool.

I love cardboard because it’s simple, accessible, and endlessly flexible — the same material kids naturally gravitate toward when they build forts and machines anyway.

We’re also working with a local illustrator to create “instruction-ish” kits that give ideas without prescribing exact outcomes.

This toy is going to evolve over time, so if you want to try it and be part of that journey, you can find it at therogerie.com.

These are a few 100% certified humans that I would be thrilled to see on City Council. Competent, caring, and most importantly, real people who genuinely give a damn about our city.

I doubt we agree on everything, and we're not running as a team. But I know they each bring something valuable to the table.

They were like "is 8:30pm PT ok?" I'm like "how late is a late night show?? What do you mean you want to interview me during my Netflix time?" Like, it's fine, I guess. I'm not going to be rude. But also it's a bit late. Like let's all go to bed. by @iambradythecreator

I've heard through the grapevine that some people have taken my campaign slightly more literally than intended and think I actually have no experience 😂

So, just to clear the record: the campaign is unserious. The candidacy isn't.

I have a lot to learn about municipal government, and I've never pretended otherwise. But I'm also not starting from zero.

I've spent most of my life building things, leading projects, solving problems, running a business, and occasionally finding myself wildly underqualified for something until I figure it out.

I don't have experience being a politician.

I think I can live with that. by @iambradythecreator

There are certain people you meet who's heart is visible before you even talk to them, and that's how I'd describe Crystal. I can't believe I hadn't been to Little Hobo until today, but her genuine care is evident all over. From the excellent food, to the homey vibe, to the regular customers who clearly visit regularly, this is a gem I didn't even know Kelowna had. You can't build that with money or clever marketing, only with years of hard work and a focus on those around you.

I think a person who can build a sandwich shop that everyday citizens love is the perfect choice to help build the city. by @iambradythecreator

The saxophones keep getting louder.

From what I can tell, it turns out the boardwalk is straight up not on The Eldorado's property. What is even happening? 😂 taken in Kelowna, British Columbia by @iambradythecreator

Three council candidates walk into a race.

Well, one drove. I took an e-scooter. And one of us made the unfortunate decision to trust Kelowna transit. We wanted to demonstrate something pretty simple: a transportation option isn't useful just because it exists. It has to be fast, frequent and reliable enough that people can actually choose it.

For a lot of Kelowna residents, owning a car isn't much of a choice. It's the only practical way to reliably get to work, appointments, school or wherever else they need to go. And after housing, transportation is one of the biggest expenses households face.

Kelowna's own Transportation Master Plan calls for fast and reliable transit and recognizes that needing multiple vehicles puts financial pressure on families. The City is already working toward more frequent service on major corridors, but there's obviously a lot more work to do. by @iambradythecreator

Kelowna has a plan for a continuous 27km public waterfront route. So naturally we tried to walk it.

Turns out that raises a few questions...

Lake foreshore is generally provincial Crown land, but actually walking along it is quite the gymnastics challenge to say the least. Many sections are blocked off entirely. Some of those structures may be completely legit, some may predate their current owners, and there may be legal agreements or property circumstances I know nothing about.

But meanwhile, just this year the City adopted the Sapphire Shoreline, a long-term vision for a continuous land-based waterfront route along Okanagan Lake. The OCP already calls for continuous public access along the waterfront as opportunities arise through things like acquisition, development and rights-of-way, and specifically notes barriers like retaining walls and docks.

So the question I'm asking isn't "who's doing something wrong?", it's "how would we actually get from what exists today to the continuous waterfront Kelowna says it wants?". by @iambradythecreator
