#tbt❤️ "I love this vintage photo of Freda from the 1960's. It says so much without any words. She had just arrived in New York City at about 19 years old. I asked her what were you thinking about when this photo was taken? She said "I guess I was wondering how I would do in the big Apple? She was appearing in a small jazz club and #clarenceavant ( "The Black Godfather of Hollywood) saw her,and told @quincyjones "There's a new girl, singing at this club. You need to go see her." And The rest is history. Quincy produced her first jazz album. She went on to record over 25 albums, 2 Gold million selling singles"Band Of Gold" and " Bring The Boys Home" Then Broadway called and more and more TV and film roles. But she always returned to her jazz roots. Which she does on Sat Sept 26th in a show created, written and directed by @donbwelch called "Freda Payne pays tribute to the legendary ladies of jazz". Although her birthday is Sept 19th we will also celebrate it at the show on the 26th Over 7 decades in the industry, Freda will turn 84 years young and she is still singing and grooving, and moving to the music🎵🎶. I hope you will join us and help celebrate this legendary lady of song. For tickets and reservations go to Ticketweb.com And stay after to meet and greet Freda! Last year the line to get in was around the corner. So hurry and get your reservations. Ticketweb.com taken in Catalina Jazz Club by @iamfredapayne

It was so wonderful spending time with my dear friend Thelma Houston Saturday night at Catalina Jazz Club. 💖
I stopped by to support her show, and as always, she was absolutely fabulous. We shared some laughs, caught up backstage, and enjoyed a beautiful evening celebrating great music and friendship. It's always a pleasure to see Thelma doing what she loves and lighting up the stage with her incredible talent.
