While being at a Caribbean medical school has been one of my greatest privileges, it has also been one of my greatest struggles due to finances. I also was recently diagnosed with severe dyslexia! As of March 28, 2025, the specialist I’m working with does not take medical insurance. Although I have maintained a 3.0 GPA without being diagnosed or accommodated for dyslexia , I only received scholarships my first year. Most Caribbean schools do not receive financial aid from the US government, so we are required to take out private loans or apply for scholarships due to them not being a Title 9 school. Most scholarships require you to be an American student. For the first time in my academic career, I have struggled to pay school tuition with the money I saved up from working over the years. I am not allowed to work by the contract of the school, and my parents are unable to cosign private loans for me. Your contribution will help me to become the pediatric emergency physician I dream of becoming.

It took the ending of my second year of medical school (pharmacology) to find out I have dyslexia! ! While maintaining a 3.0 GPA.

Having Dyslexia doesn’t have to change anything, just the way you process information! You are still brilliant. !🫶🏾❣️
