POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Took my Storybook to the Re Center this afternoon, and my heart is still full.

With the much-anticipated FUZE Caribbean Art Fair approaching, she had the chance to chat candidly with Lavar ,Antonius, Matthew, Dede , and Jason. Such a special thing for me to have them welcome her into that creative energy—to ask questions, share thoughts, and connect. These moments are pivotal for young minds.

But the moment that meant the most to me was watching her pick up a drill and work alongside me, helping assemble a mixed-media piece I’ve been imagining for so long, using remnants of my installation from last year’s FUZE.

As a young artist, I could never have imagined that one day my daughter would be beside me in the studio, making something with me and finding her own conversations with artists I admire so deeply. This afternoon, an idea I had carried around for ages became a memory I’ll carry for much longer.

A very proud father moment. I know I’m biased, but I love this child beyond words. My prayer is that, whatever she chooses to do, she finds her own creative language and the confidence to follow it. May she always be blessed. 🙏🏾🖤🔥

Thank you for always showing up @jason_ayer_bennett . We go way back and it means the world to me that you give your self to this idea even though we are still proving ourselves to the art world. When Fuze becomes a significant part of the global ecosystem of art fairs I’ll always remember that you and many others stood by me while I made public mistakes and repeatedly dropped the ball. I appreciate you all the artists that said ‘yes’ and believed in my/our idea.

The answer to how, is YES !!!

This week at the Re Center, experimenting and collaborating with Lavar Munroe as we approach Fuze Caribbean Art Fair brought me back to Venice—to the shared energy of bringing an installation to life and discovering possibilities together.

It was especially cool to have the hands of people around the studio helping us hold pieces up and tie the structure together. Antonius was in the mix, Jason was in the mix, Matthew was in the mix, Eddion was in the mix. A true sense of community and collaboration, just like we experienced in Venice. There’s something special about watching an idea take shape through everyone’s contribution.

It also brought me back to my own artistic energy. Hospitality and tourism are deeply woven into our environment and how the world sees The Bahamas. And what object speaks more directly to a beach destination than a lounge chair?

These chairs had been taking shape in my head for a long time. Bringing them together, with a nod to Rauschenberg’s combines and Duchamp’s readymades, reminded me how much possibility lives in the familiar things around us. There was tremendous joy and satisfaction in finally making the idea tangible.

So much of my work in the art world involves creating opportunities for others. Moments like these reconnect me with the pleasure of making, and with the meaning that motivates everything else I do.

Grateful for Lavar, for everyone who lent a hand, and for more collaborations to come. These moments mean a great deal to me.

FUZE Caribbean Art Fair 2026: Coming Home is right around the corner. Heading into our fourth year, I’m excited, focused, and feeling the weight and possibility of bringing this vision to life once again.

The goal remains clear: to bring together a dynamic community of creatives from The Bahamas, the Caribbean, and the wider world at the intersection of community, collaboration, and opportunity.

Art reaches beyond the simple transaction into the soulful interaction—the conversations, connections, and shared experiences that stay with us. That is what I hope sits at the heart of this fair.

Coming Home is about gathering around what connects us and imagining what we can build together. taken in Baha Mar Convention Center by @iamjohnedwardcox

The older I get, the more I recognize how much of what keeps me going was formed long before I understood its importance. In difficult moments, I find myself reaching back toward the things that first gave me inspiration, community, and a sense of belonging.

At fourteen, that was skateboarding in my parents’ yard. Building ramps with friends, learning tricks, hanging out, imagining what we might try next. From the outside, it might have looked like just riding a skateboard. To us, it was a whole world. That small skate community etched something permanent into me—an enthusiasm for making things, taking chances, and finding your people.

Many years later, building a ramp with my great friend Jason Bennett brings that feeling right back. His enthusiasm still meets mine in the same place it did when we were boys. There’s something deeply moving about realizing we can still share that sense of wonder.

It almost doesn’t matter whether we skate the ramp. Building it together already means something. I see it as a sculpture now: a place where friendship, memory, and possibility take physical form. A reminder that, as we age and evolve, the things that formed us can still help us persevere.

Good times at the Re: Center this weekend. There’s something special about a creative space filled with people working through ideas, figuring things out, and having fun along the way. That’s how the energy builds.

Community and collaboration are at the heart of anything that lasts. Appreciate all these dudes—the talent, the laughter, and the willingness to work through the creative problems together. Looking forward to what we put together for FUZE 2026: Coming Home, and what we’ll keep building at the Re: Center in 2027.

I’m still grappling with how much my identity has shifted. After so many years of being an artist in the studio, I sometimes look around and realize how different my days have become.

I miss the simplicity of being immersed in my own work—the solitude, the uncertainty, the hours spent following an idea just to see where it might lead.

Today, I find myself on the other side of the coin, still fortunate to be in the creative arena, helping shape opportunities for artists and imagining what we can build together. There’s real excitement in that, even as I feel the pull of the studio.

Grateful for where I’ve come from. Curious about who I’m becoming. And still an artist, through all of it.
