Being a CEO is often romanticized by big stages, and celebration photos. But the truth is leadership lives in the in-between moments: the late nights, the hard decisions, the quiet pressure of carrying a mission that’s bigger than you.

This year reminded me of both the weight and the privilege of leading BLK Men in Tech.

We celebrated real wins:
• 75,000+ community members nationwide, a 15% year-over-year increase
• 450+ people hired through our ecosystem (26% YoY growth)
• 8,000+ participants across conferences, workshops, service days, and community activations
• 3,000+ community service hours completed in 2025 across education, mentorship, and local service initiatives
• THRIVE Conference welcoming 800+ attendees, including students, professionals, and executives committed to building something better together

But alongside the wins came challenges that don’t always make the highlight reel.

There are moments in leadership, especially at the top where it can feel incredibly lonely. You’re surrounded by people, yet carrying decisions no one else can make. You absorb uncertainty so others don’t have to. You move forward even when clarity hasn’t fully arrived. And in those moments, there’s no applause, just responsibility.

Leadership will stretch you. It will humble you. And if you’re doing it right, it will change you. by @iamkhamward

Last week, I had the opportunity to sit down with @omibell on Urban View Mornings (SiriusXM Channel 126) to talk about the power of building community.

We explored The Art of Meeting People Where They Are—because real connection isn’t about forcing change but creating space for open dialogue. By meeting people in their thought process, we make room for new perspectives, one step at a time.

For me, it was about being a trusted partner—giving people the space to express themselves while also pricking their hearts and minds to raise awareness about how their perspectives and actions may impact others beyond themselves. #blkmenintech by @iamkhamward

As I reflect on 2024, I’m in awe of what @blkmenintech has accomplished and how much we’ve grown. This year wasn’t without its challenges, but the growth we experienced was beyond what I could have imagined. Our core pillars—convene, connect, and care—were at the heart of everything we did.

My track coach used to say, “In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.” I never fully understood what that meant until this year. Even with what I thought were limitations, we still THRIVE(d).

As we celebrate 5 years in 2025, know this: we’re just getting started. We are on a mission. The mission is bigger than any of us, and the work ahead is necessary. Lock in with us—because together, we’re changing the game.
