Assorted captures from THE ARK: Live Audiovisual Experience last week. Still processing the magic. Grateful, reinvigorated, and the fire inside stoked even higher because I realized through this experience that no one can, will, or should go harder than you for YOUR dreams. A lot of times I wish I had more help, and this journey and my practice can feel incredibly lonely, but the pride that I get to take in knowing that I’m making spectacular things come to life out of my brain alone affirms that I cannot be stopped. What if taking a psychedelic clinically meant a clearer, calmer mind?

This idea is illustrated in “Neuropsychopharmacology,” a music video starring #Milwaukee musician @iamklassik, whose lyrics and beats take inspiration from the #research of MCW’s Dr. John McCorvy.

Symphony and I have known each other since the days of Roosevelt Middle School. I have been inspired by the moves she has made with her practice, and how that practice effortlessly encompasses impactful community work. Excited to join the @thecr8tvhouse for the first annual “Joy On The Block” Party as a featured performer. I hope to see you all there ❤️‍🔥 by @iamklassik

I recently had the opportunity to do some sound design and composition work for the @mkechamber production of “A Raisin In The Sun” (running now through May 24.)

It’s been years since I’ve really picked up the sax, and it’s a guilt I have internally carried forever. From fourth grade all the way through high school, saxophone and jazz studies were my focal point. Much of that training informed the artist I am today, and is why you can hear the jazz foundation even in my most contemporary works. But this?! This was different. I knew that sculpting a sonic world to transition between scenes for a play set in 1950s Southside Chicago meant working through a more traditional jazz lens, so with just the first saxophone my father bought me and my trusted DAW Ableton, I did my best to create the sounds of a traditional jazz combo. For three days straight, after taking notes with the director in a couple rehearsals, I dove headfirst back into getting a nominal amount of licks and runs underneath my fingers, crash coursing through my memory banks, pulling from everything I ever might have played. It was quite the challenge, but so fulfilling to zap back into.

Thankful for the work in all ways that keeps my creative mind sharp, well-rounded, innovative, rooted, imaginative and fluid.

Happy Mother’s Day to Mama Klass!

(And all the mothers out there most certainly, but of course I gotta shine the light on my mom first!)

If I got my alien eccentricities from my father, I got my big heart, compassion, patience and warmth from my mother. She is the epitome of love and light; she pours into her family and works so very very hard (and God I can’t wait til I get to say “mom, you get to just rest and relax, I got it from here). My mother’s smile is pure radiance; her heart is big and strong; her commitment to forward movement and dedication to doing the work, whatever it may be, inform and inspire me constantly.

This year I promise we will get more pictures, but in the meantime, Mama Klass and I are off this afternoon to see “Michael” (it will be her second time, my first lol).

Love to all the mamas out there ❤️‍🔥 by @iamklassik
