this is DECONSTRUCTED POP.

growing up, i never saw artists who looked like me on the big stages. this song is me pushing tf back on that traditional mould.

i had THE best time meeting new friends and filming this crazy horror-coded video down in Sydney earlier this year.

this was the wildest first music video shoot EVER. @minniemiu5 literally had to spend a good hour digging around in my eyeballs cause it was SO hard getting those HUGE blackout contacts in. bless her for her patience with my non-stop blinking fr

i was in pain the whole time and couldn’t see anything for the few hours i had those contacts in but it was so worth it cause i knew i needed to serve my full horror possessed by demon vision

‘CAPTURE YOUR WRAITH’ - where do I begin?

Since I’ve been releasing music, I’ve never felt confident in what I put out. I chased trends. I flip flopped on genres and sounds. I let the value of my work be determined by external opinions. I’ve been so lucky to be in the right rooms with the right people in the most incredible studio community but I’ve never felt like I deserved to be there.

Everyone around me has heard me talk about how I’m GOING to release music, I’m GOING to quit my law job, I’m GOING to move to Berlin, I’m GOING to do this, I’m GOING to do that. From the outside, I’m probably just a boy who cries wolf. But I really DO want those things so why can’t I fight for them?

I’ve held so much anger inside me and fed this deep-seated hatred for myself because of my inaction.

‘CAPTURE YOUR WRAITH’ was the first song I wrote that allowed me to express this anger for the first time. And slowly, my artistic and sonic identity became clearer and clearer to me. For this reason, this song is really important to me and I’m really really really proud of it.

This is the start of DECONSTRUCTED POP and it is what Laius will be known for.

I’ve been listening to all this new music on repeat and I can’t wait for you to do the same.

“CAPTURE YOUR WRAITH” is coming on 25 September.

For the longest time, I have felt stuck in a scene that seems to only reward people who look and sound a certain way.

Growing up, I have never seen someone like me - a queer second generation immigrant - on the big stages or otherwise platformed and I think it’s time for that to change.

A wraith is the ghostlike image of something right before its death and I can see this industry’s wraith.

Everything to come is intended to be: ABRASIVE. OFFENSIVE. MAXIMALIST.
