Introducing the Heavy on the Healing Foundation. 💜💛🩷

What started as a message about choosing healing, caring for ourselves, and creating space to grow is now expanding into something bigger—an opportunity to pour that same care back into our communities.

Through our foundation initiatives, we hope to support mental health, community care, youth empowerment, women, health and wellness, education, social justice, and other needs as they arise.

We are just getting started, and I’m excited to see how this vision continues to blossom. 🌱

Came back to LA and hit reset. I’ve been doing a lot of thinking, and one thing is certain. It’s time for a shift in more ways than one.

I’ve removed all the unnecessary chatter. The GroupMes, the Facebook groups, the email groups, all of it. I’m at a place in my life where I understand that I don’t have to be in every room, part of every conversation, or connected to everybody. If my value isn’t seen or respected, that’s simply not a room for me.

I hear what you say, but I believe what you do. I pay attention to who shows up, who stands beside me, and who remains silent when my name is spoken in rooms I’m not in. I don’t need an explanation because your actions have already given me one. People are free to choose their side, but I’m also free to let them stay there. And if you decide to leave, I genuinely wish you well, but this isn’t a revolving door.

I think about the 19-year-old young lady who was trying to figure out life on her own and how far she’s come. She has grown, learned, accomplished things she once couldn’t even imagine, and evolved into a woman who no longer feels the need to prove herself to anybody. My legacy is secure. The books have my name in them. The witnesses were there, and the stories will be told by people who experienced them firsthand. I’m not convincing anyone of anything.

I’m in the best shape of my life, mentally and physically. I’m doing some amazing things, and there’s still so much I want to accomplish. But this season requires me to make the hard decisions, reorganize where necessary, and be very intentional about who I take with me.

The weight of my boat is light. The path forward is clear. My discernment is stronger than ever, and I’m moving with certainty. I know who I am, I know what I bring, and I know where I’m going.

One of the clearest signs of leadership is what continues to grow after you leave the room.

It is easy to measure leadership by completed tasks, busy calendars, successful events and how much work gets done. But getting things done is not the same as building something stronger.

Strong leadership leaves people more confident, more prepared and more willing to take ownership. It creates clarity. It develops others. It strengthens the culture and builds a foundation that does not depend on one person to keep everything moving.

If everything falls apart when the leader steps away, the work may have been completed, but leadership was not developed.

The real question is not simply, “What did we accomplish?”
It is, “What is stronger now because I was here?”

I’m going to tell you what some people won’t tell you: start over.

Sometimes you have to leave without having the next step completely figured out. Sometimes the plan comes after the decision. Sometimes clarity comes after you move.

Let that be part of the change you implement in your life. Get comfortable being uncomfortable. Get comfortable not knowing exactly how everything is going to work out.

You don’t have to have the whole plan to know that where you are isn’t where you’re supposed to stay.

Start over. Learn as you go. Trust yourself enough to figure it out along the way.

Sometimes starting over isn’t going backwards. It’s finally giving yourself permission to go somewhere different

If you would have asked me 20 years ago where I would be today, I wouldn’t have been able to see this far ahead.

I have literally grown up with AKA. Every stage of my adult life has had Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® somewhere in it. Over the years, you really do discover who you are and who you are not. You learn what matters to you, what you stand for, when to speak, when to listen, how to lead, how to follow, how to serve and most importantly, how to grow.

The young woman who became an AKA 20 years ago had no idea how much life would happen between then and now. Different cities. Different seasons. Different roles. Different lessons. Some incredible highs, some difficult moments and a whole lot of becoming.

And through it all, I kept serving.

Today, I’m celebrating 20 years of uninterrupted service to this sisterhood. Twenty years of learning. Twenty years of sisterhood. Twenty years of service. Twenty years of becoming.

I’m grateful for the woman I was when I started, proud of the woman I’ve become and excited about the woman and leader I’m still becoming.

20 years down and there is still so much more to give. 💗💚
