How to dance with 🎧 and auto-sync the music

It took me a year to make this app.. It’s something I’ve always wanted for myself, so I made it!

And I realized other people might like it too. It lets you:

- Dance with headphones
- Auto-sync the music
- Have unlimited recording time

Comment 🎧 and share if you would use this and want to test it out!

(If there’s enough ppl interested, then I’ll try pushing it onto the App Store) by @iamperris

Attempting to describe how I use my dance tool @cyphrcam in my own practice: it’s been roughly 2 years since I started building this tool. And I’ve been thinking a lot on who it’s really for, the purpose of it, and the different ways it can be used to support deeper practice and quicker improvement in one’s movement quality.

Yes the tool is quite simple: upload your own music, dance with headphones/speakers, dance to a whole song, and have a finished video with the music perfectly synchronized instantly. (I’ve also been working on infrastructure for a music marketplace and filmmaking tools the past 6 months.)

But more than that, I’ve found it to heal my relationship to my own dance and creativity in profound ways I didn’t expect.

Ive struggled a lot building this, and navigating sharing it with others, showing up when life has been difficult + being a big introvert. I work as a marketer for other people’s products, but when it comes to my own creations - it’s difficult for me to share them. I don’t like feeling like I’m “selling” the tool.

I’ve questioned, if I should stop development, or even if it’s really useful to anyone.

But if I quiet those voices and look at how it’s shown up in my own life and creative practice.. I don’t find myself stopping using it. I naturally keep coming back to it.

And it comes down to how it just lets me turn off the world and get lost in my practice. And then research where i went.

Ty to all the people who have supported me early on in building this, who believed in it, and still use it. I honestly don’t know where to go next, or even how to approach talking about it or making content around it.

So here’s me trying to go deeper into the philosophy a bit.

I wonder what I want to do with dance.

I stopped pursuing it 6 years ago. I felt stranger to it, esp since I’m surrounded by so many talented artists in Vegas who pursue it so intensely. Tours, shows, gigs, and all.

Part of me felt phony.

Like an imposter..

Since I don’t meet that level of intensity.

Then..I spent the past 2+ years building an app to make practicing dance fun again.

It’s been incredibly healing for my art. And how I see myself again as a creative, artist, and inventor.

Now it’s so easy to dance anywhere at anytime. Access flow state. And capture, study, reflect, iterate, experiment, etc in my practice. To lab. In any environment, with very little creative constraints. It’s crazy how something so small, dancing with headphones, off of social media, can do.

I do it so much now, I feel like I’m finally seeing my art eye-to-eye again. But I wonder, where does that go from here?

I’m still developing and releasing new features in the tool. I’m excited to share the filmmaking tools..

and I have enough ideas to last some years.

Testing out my theory; building new infrastructure for the dance + music community & economy.

But I wonder.

I wonder if the tool is genuinely useful for others, or if it’s just seen as a gimmick. I personally don’t think so, I use it everyday. Idk if I’m biased, since I made it, but it saves me so much time so I can do more of the thing.

It currently has 150 monthly active users. And 50+ weekly active users. With barely any marketing.

I think that’s a good sign.

I have a plan. But things don’t always go to plan.

I wonder.
