4:15 PM is such a perfect time to launch the BIRTH of my first product release (Elana’s DOB 4/15/2014 👣) under MY PLATFORM @playyourcardsright_ LLC. In the 7th grade I started writing poems, which soon transitioned to R&B songs, then lyrical content; but TODAY we celebrate the PRE ORDER RELEASE of my SELF PUBLISHED/WRITTEN children’s book😍😍😍😍

To give you guys some context, in 2014 I started a novel but became overwhelmed with motherhood (& suffered from writers block) so a few years back I decided to visit @harlembizalliance to seek help with writing a book. Within that decision I realized taking baby steps wouldn’t be a bad idea so a “children’s book” just made sense (especially since I’m infatuated with rhyming 🤣😂).

Although I wasn’t provided the TO DO’s, after speaking with an author who hinted different apps I could use to gradually note take, in the kitchen one afternoon I started to freestyle a riddle which became “Mama’s Baby & Poppa’s Baby TOO👩🏽‍🦱👦🏽👶🏽👶🏼👧🏽 📖”

FAST FORWARD to 2019 I stumbled across @melaninorigins who offered publishing services, but once the pandemic hit and I was finally ready to submit a down payment they no longer accepted submissions😒 Talk about being DEVASTATED.

What I thought was a huge disappoint ended up being the BEST opportunity to take advantage of. The CEO of @melaninorigins provided a FREE self guided manual to writing a children’s book. Thank you @phrozenscribe for empowering me to take on this journey freely & independently. NOW MY BOOK is published under MY COMPANY @playyourcardsright_ LLC. I can officially call my baby a Production/Publishing COMPANY 😢💪🏾🙏🏾

As summer officially comes to a close and our children settle into a FRESH new school year and season, we can’t help but reminisce on the LOVE, IMPACT & COMMUNITY that made this summer so meaningful. 🥹🍎📚✨

What better way to reflect on “Mama’s Baby & Poppa’s Baby TOO Day” than through the voices of the people who helped make it happen?!💯

Our 5th Annual Back to School Giveaway / Field Day was truly a FAMILY affair! From setting up and serving food to facilitating games, distributing supplies, supporting our children and simply stepping in wherever needed—our FAMILY volunteers brought the ENERGY🤝🏽🎒🏀❤️

These testimonials remind us that community impact isn’t created by ONE person—it happens when a village decides to SHOW UP, SERVE & POUR BACK INTO THE NEXT GENERATION.

As we transition from summer memories into new classrooms, new goals, new opportunities and a FRESH season, we pray that the love poured into our children that day follows them throughout this entire school year. 🙏🏽📚❤️

☔️🖤 57th Annual African American Day Parade!

Last week, TO DATE, officially was the AADP’s FIRST RAINY DAY out of 57 years, but one thing remained clear: when it rains, it doesn’t always pour—and God does NOT play about our culture! 🙏🏽✊🏿

A HUGE shoutout to @something_untouchable DANCE/DRUM/CHEER company for continuing to show up, represent, and march proudly year after year! 💃🏽🖤

Elana first participated in the African American Day Parade in September 2022, and this year marked her FOURTH year performing! 🥹 As her mother, it is such a blessing to watch her grow, flourish, and literally leave her footprints in a tradition that represents so much more than a parade.

The African American Day Parade represents BLACK CULTURE. EXCELLENCE. PRIDE. HISTORY. TRADITION. LEGACY. ✊🏽✊🏿✊🏽✊🏼

For generations, our AFRICAN AMERICAN PERFORMERS, ACTIVISTS, INTELLECTUALS, COMMUNITY LEADERS, POLITICIANS, LEGENDS, ARTISTS, and ICONS have walked these Harlem streets celebrating the RICHNESS of the African American experience.

To know that Elana is now contributing a small piece to that HERstory—and creating memories and a legacy that, God willing, she can one day share with the generations that come after her—makes my heart smile. 🥹❤️

Thank you to every organizer, facilitator, dance company, organization, family, spectator, and community member who continues to make this parade possible.

Even as we’ve watched its presence become smaller over the years, we will continue advocating for the African American Day Parade to receive the VISIBILITY, resources, SPACE, celebration, and support that our culture deserves in this city.

Because one thing about US…
NOBODY can rain on OUR parade—figuratively OR literally! ☔️✊🏽🖤

This one was literally ONE FOR HERstory Books! 📖

One of the most special parts of this entire trip was experiencing Elana’s FIRST FLIGHT with her! ✈️

To watch my daughter experience something new for the very first time — not only with me, but alongside her dance sisters — is a memory I know she and I will cherish for years to come. ❤️

A HUGE thank you to @something_untouchable @sayeeda.____ @iam_naimaalia for continuing to empower our girls and encourage them to become the BEST versions of themselves. It goes so much deeper than dance. It’s the sisterhood, discipline, respect, etiquette, confidence, accountability, and the AUDACITY to exude greatness everywhere they go! 👑💚💗

TEAMWORK REALLY DOES MAKE THE DREAM WORK! 🤞🏽💚💗

These girls went to Texas and came back with more than trophies. They came back with memories, sisterhood, confidence, new experiences and another chapter added to their story.

As her Mommy, I’m just grateful I get a front-row seat to watch it all unfold. 🥹❤️

“5TH BACK TO SCHOOL GIVEAWAY X Mama’s Baby & Poppa’s Baby TOO FIELD DAY ☀️ ”

Five years later, and I’m still in awe of what happens when LOVE, FAMILY, PURPOSE & COMMUNITY come together. 🙏🏽 Our 5th Annual Back to School Giveaway / Field Day — Mama’s Baby & Poppa’s Baby Too Day was another reminder that what we’re building is so much bigger than ONE event. 🎒☀️

But for me, this is also about LEGACY. 💯

My grandmother DELORES and my ancestors continue to be the driving force behind so much of what I do. The foundation they laid, the sacrifices they made, the love they poured into our family and the role they played in shaping my childhood did NOT stop with them. I AM PART OF THEIR HARVEST. 🌱❤️

So now that the torch is in my hands, it’s only right that I carry it with PURPOSE. 🔥

I want my children to SEE what giving back looks like. I want them to understand that community isn’t just where you live — community is what you POUR INTO. I want them to remember setting up, helping families, playing with children, passing out supplies, laughing, working and watching people come together because somebody decided to CARE.

Because eventually, this torch won’t belong to me. 🕯️➡️❤️

One day, it will be THEIR turn to carry it, give back, serve others and make a REAL IMPACT on the lives around them. That’s how legacy survives — we don’t just tell the next generation what our ancestors did... WE SHOW THEM HOW TO CONTINUE IT. 💯

Although this year was mainly SELF FUNDED bu myself & @althea_belton, we want to THANK every volunteer, FOOD sponsor, donor, family member, friend, community partner and helping hand who contributed your LOVE, TIME, ENERGY, TALENT, RESOURCES & PRESENCE — THANK YOU! 🙏🏽❤️ You helped us pour into another generation.

And NEXT YEAR?! We’re calling on even MORE families to collaborate with us so we can make the 6th Annual BIGGER, BETTER & STRONGER! 🤝🏽
Let’s truly put the UNITY back in COMMUNITY. ❤️

🥋🧡 LEVELING UP! x3! 🧡🥋

As a Mommy, there are certain moments that remind you just how powerful consistency, discipline, and the right mentors can be. Today is one of those moments. 💯

My BIG BOY, Eric Jr., started his Tae Kwon Do journey back in May as a beginner with a white belt. Fast forward just a few short months, and he has already earned his Yellow Belt and is now proudly rocking his Orange Belt! 🧡👏🏽

Watching his confidence grow has been one of the greatest gifts. It’s no longer just about learning punches and kicks—it’s about developing discipline, respect, focus, self-control, situational awareness, and the confidence to protect himself if he’s ever faced with harm. Those are life skills that will carry him far beyond the mat.

A special thank you to Tam’Sir and the entire team at “Champion Martial Arts” for creating such a professional, organized, and encouraging environment for our children. Every class leaves me amazed by how effortlessly you capture their attention while helping them grow physically, mentally, and emotionally. Your passion doesn’t just build martial artists—it builds strong, confident young leaders.

Saturday was an absolute BLAST! 💥 Thank you for pouring into our youth and making every milestone feel like a celebration.
