The @dallaszoo sits in Oak Cliff, where my wife and I are raising our son and where I work to expand opportunity in the community. So when the city began weighing deeper cuts to its funding, I wanted to weigh in.

This week I wrote a piece in The @dallasnews making the case to protect it. Link in bio.

I care about the quality of life across my hometown, the places that make a neighborhood whole. The Dallas Zoo is one of those anchors in Oak Cliff. To me it was never a line in a budget. It’s about whether it stays strong for the next generation.

Commission art has been, and continues to be able to bring out the very best of my abilities! This Mandalorian piece provides an amazing opportunity to see just how much I’ve learned after returning back home to my roots😇🤝🔥

A great art colleague of mine challenged me to let go of line work EARLY in an art piece so I can force the need to utilize realism. Realistic art, and artwork that leans heavily on value control has always been a method that I have admired since beginning my art journey.

Metal is NOT my strong suit, but this commission taught me the importance of REFERENCES, lmao.

How do you think I did? I usually have large canvas sizes because detail is important to me. Digital art allows us to dig deep and be specific, but we often lose sight of this due to posting on social media. Our art deserves to be seen on a large scale, or at least with a zoomed in pov🙌🔥

Thank you to @iamxah for hiring me, once again! This piece would not be without the support of those who believe in me. It’s one thing to like a post. But it is another thing to remember the artist hard at work in the background when you need a project to get done right!

These were the beginning flats I used, but that changed and shifted slightly as I went on. This piece kept me from being too rigid. Sometimes you have to lay down your thoughts and know that things we shift and alter as you progress.

Not many would see this level of detail online, but this art piece is meant to be printed and hung in a room. The human eye will likely scan the finer details and I did not want to take shortcuts!

Subtlety is key, or at least that’s what I’m learning. I usually have a HEAVY hand when it comes to applying light and glare. However, realistic lighting does not reflect as much as I assumed in my mind before beginning this. It almost feels like the lighting I applied is nonexistent🤣

We celebrated four years of marriage. That same night, we began the journey to bring our baby boy into the world.
Days later, Edna did it.
Thank you, God, for a healthy delivery and 4 wonderful years of marriage.

11 years strong.

This Saturday, we’re back where it all started. The 11th Annual For Oak Cliff Back to School Festival is going down at For Oak Cliff from 9AM to noon, and everybody is invited!

Last year was like a family reunion. I’m posting a few from 2024, but there’s nothing like being there in person so visit us Saturday. Pull up for free backpacks, school supplies, food, music, and good energy for the whole family. Let’s get our kiddos ready to go to school.

The mission hasn’t changed and neither has the commitment.

Today is Juneteenth.

As a native Texan, son and grandson of native Texans, this day always means so much. It’s both history and legacy.

I have so many joyful moments from the past few years of our Juneteenth Festival at For Oak Cliff. These gatherings reflect the heart of our community, full of joy, culture, and connection. We both commemorate Juneteenth and we live it.

So please join us this Saturday, June 21st from 11AM–2PM for our 5th Annual Juneteenth Festival at For Oak Cliff.

I first learned about Geoffrey Canada and the Harlem Children’s Zone as a high school senior in 09-10. I didn’t act on it then, but the seed was planted, and it affirmed something I already felt: that our schools and communities deserved more.

In 2016, while living and teaching in 75216, @mr_toynes gifted me and my friend @justcallme_keda a copy of “Whatever It Takes”. That’s when it all clicked. HCZ became a blueprint for what’s now @4oakcliff a place-based model rooted in love, accountability, and belief in community.

That’s why it means so much to welcome Mr. Canada as our Power of Proximity Keynote on June 20. His work has shaped so many lives, mine included.

Grateful to God for this trip of a lifetime; Alaska, Canada, and Edna living out a bucket list dream. I’m committed to being there for every one of them, just to see her light shine.
