Whimsical weekend in Wellington celebrating 20 years of @twentysevennames 💗 Anj and Rach have always known who they are, as 20-somethings when we first met through to today as grown women. Smart! Fun! Cool! Almost aggressively cute. I loved seeing this all on full display through their special retrospective show, installations and talk as part of Common Material. I think staying playful, as the world burns and as we age in this funny old fashion industry, can sometimes feel like a radical act and they truly embody that xx by @iamzoewalker

Taken some time to process but I’m all outta words when it comes to the end of Ensemble. So here are some pix. We had FUN, worked hard, ate cake and created something that mattered - proud of it all, and proud of myself and @rebeccatimpson 💜🎀🦭🍰🗣️🔮 Wrapping up a business and creative project that has been so important to me for 5+ years has been eye-opening in showing what relationships in this industry are real. When we launched, we introduced our #EnsembleCast of contributors and friends wearing their #BestEnsemble. We’re ending in that same collective spirit, by celebrating some of the people who shaped five years of Ensemble 💜⁠ ⁠ Zoe Walker Ahwa (@iamzoewalker) is Ensemble's co-founder and editor. Easily the best fashion/lifestyle editor and writer in the industry, Zoe has razor sharp instincts that were instrumental in shaping Ensemble's crystal clear tone and voice which made such an indelible mark on the industry. A subbing and grammar whiz, who read every word that ever appeared on the site (please don't get her started on curly apostrophes) Zoe's other great skill is talent spotting: a large number of our contributors were given their start by Zoe before being noticed by other titles, and we've taken great pleasure in seeing the career growth of our talent roster. Zoe approaches everything she does with heart for the reader, and the creatives behind the scenes.⁠ ⁠ -⁠ Zoe wears a @daylightmoonstudio dress and holds a @pennysage bow bag with flowers from the dairy by @iamzoewalker

💜Haere rā from Ensemble 💜 Some news from us: We have decided it’s time for Ensemble to take its final bow. This five-year project has been the most rewarding of our careers, and we’re immensely proud of the business and platform we have built together. But there is integrity in knowing when something has come to a natural end – and when it’s time to leave the party. From day one, we promised honesty, and we’ll hold to that here. Over the past year of independent (again) ownership, we’ve poured all our energy into adapting and refining what Ensemble could realistically be. But maintaining the standards that we hold for ourselves, and the Ensemble brand, is no longer sustainable – emotionally, financially or creatively. Coincidentally (we promise!), shortly after we’d made this decision, life reminded us we’d made the right call – and of the importance of winding things down authentically and gently. But still with some cake, dairy flowers and messy fun 🍰💐 THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts to everyone who has supported us over these five years: readers, our team past and present, contributors, advertisers, subscribers, friends, family, collaborators, our community. Above all, we want to thank each other – and acknowledge the gift of working together, which has been at the whimsical heart of Ensemble since the beginning 🎀 We’re not quite done yet: next week we’ll publish some farewell stories and share highlights from the archive too.
