I finished my high school state meet in 2021 and decided I wasn’t ready to hang up the spikes, my mother and my high school track coach had always told me I should run at the next level but I did not agree. Turns out she had a prophecy from 2009 about one of her sons running and track and she felt like it was me. From there, it was either go to the Air Force, or run at Concord, luckily I chose the Concord route. My first practice I looked at Coach Cox and told him I wanted to be in the hall of fame one day and he told me it can be done, it will just take a lot of work. Freshman year didn’t start off so hot as I hated concord as well my sprint coach (Gore). My mom told me to stick it out for a year and it ended up being the best decision of my life and the rest is history. I want to thank Coach Cox, Coach Gore, Coach Star, Coach Gio, Coach Al, Coach Barbera, and Marcus for working with me throughout these last 4 years to help me accomplish what I have, I could not have done it without them. To my teammates and friends for other teams which I have met along the way, I want to thank you for the unconditional support, memories, and love I have been shown. The people make the place and without my people, Concord track would not be the same. I would like to thank the Lord for giving this opportunity to glorify him and fulfill the prophecy to the best of my ability. These past 4 years I’ve been speaking my greatness into existence and multiple people doubted, or hated. Even my own teammates talking behind my back and hating from the sideline but it’s ok, the word does not change. I’ve poured blood, sweat, tears, and ALOT of vomit into this sport and to finally see what I’ve spoke turn into a reality is a dream come true. I make this post with a heavy heart because sadly my time on the track has officially come to an end. However no one can take away from me my 8 all-conferences, 3 school records, Concord track and field AOTY, All-region, second fastest time in MEC history, oh…and the Mountain East Conference championship🏆. Sadly, all good things must come to an end…with that being said…Sincerely, IG✌🏽 by @iangardner20
