Community Hero Award 🏅

It was a pleasure and a privilege to present the Junior Youth Workers of @goodtreesnc with a Community Hero Award recently.

They are an outstanding group of young people who give up their time for the local community on everything from school holiday programmes to working with older people.

And they do it all with a smile on their face and a great sense of humour. Though some of their cultural references were lost on me...

Thank you to the whole group, not all of whom are in the photo. Some who were missing have started university as their volunteering has helped prepare them for the next steps of life.

And thank you to the wider team at Goodtrees for their incredible work.

Great to be joined by @katherinesangstermsp too. taken in Goodtrees Neighbourhood Centre by @ianmurraymp

Last week I had the privilege of meeting a group of students at Boroughmuir High School who are currently doing a course on leadership.

Though it is just outside Edinburgh South in Dr Scott Arthur MP's constituency, I work closely with the school given that many of its current and former pupils are constituents.

I was there to talk to them about my job as an MP but really I learned as much if not more from them as the other way round. As part of the course, they are volunteering locally in care homes, and it was wonderful to hear their insights and reflections on what it has taught them about leadership so far.

It was a really thought-provoking discussion and the students were a credit to themselves, their families and the school. by @ianmurraymp

Thank you again to all the residents of the Robert Burns estate who attended the community meeting @danieljohnsonmsp and I organised last week.

It is encouraging that there has been progress on issues such as bin collections, weeds and overgrown green spaces.

We will keep pushing for the Council to tackle the remaining issues and keep up the maintenance of the estate as the winter approaches.

If I can ever be of assistance on issues such as these in your area, please don't hesitate to get in touch with me directly. by @ianmurraymp

Congratulations and thank you to Billy Gordon who I presented with a Community Hero Award last week.🏅

Billy has done fantastic work fixing the Liberton Primary School garden after it was damaged in a fire, making it into a space the whole school community can enjoy. It has been especially beneficial for the after school club.

It was lovely to be joined by his daughter and grandchildren for the presentation.

Thank you Billy for all you do. taken in Liberton Primary School by @ianmurraymp
