Британският министър Иън Мъри поиска да се срещнем в Европейския парламент. Основният повод беше работата ми по темата за влиянието на социалните мрежи върху младите хора.

Има обаче едно нещо в неговата история, което особено ме впечатли - не всеки политик е написал книга за футбол. Още по-малко са участвали лично в спасяването на отбора, за който пишат.

Иън Мъри е един от тях.

През 2014 г. привържениците на шотландския „Хартс“ успяват да спасят клуба си от фалит, а Мъри тогава е председател на организацията, която обединява усилията им. По-късно описва тази история в книгата „This Is Our Story“, която печели и британска парламентарна награда.

Днес той е държавен министър с ресор медии и онлайн безопасност.

На срещата обсъдихме социалните мрежи и влиянието им върху младите хора, състоянието на медиите в България и разпространението на антиевропейската пропаганда.

Arts Minister Ian Murray today confirmed the Government “recognises the vital role of grassroots live comedy” and is actively working to support the sector, including through Arts Council England’s backing of the LCA.

Have the BBC been bought?

No reports about the ITV documentary on Reform UK this morning ?

When we complain about the BBC saturating the airwaves with Reform UK, they simply reply that the party is the most likely to form the next government, but recent polling and local election results show the exact opposite.

Presenters like Chris Mason and Laura Kuenssberg fawn over Nigel Farage and his party, offering views that conflict entirely with what everyone else clearly sees.

This right-wing shift in news and current affairs makes sense given that former GB News leaders like John McAndrew are now at the helm of BBC news and have a lot to answer for.

Because of this poor quality and the fact that we simply cannot afford it anymore, the BBC has seen over 500,000 people cancel their TV licence.

We have much more important costs to worry about than paying £180.00 a year for a network we no longer watch, and the BBC should fund themselves rather than being funded by us.

Cancelling your TV licence forces the BBC to answer why they are platforming a racist, misogynist, Islamophobic, and homophobic political party, which may finally get the attention of Lisa Nandy, Head of the Department of Culture, Media and Sport.

Politicians like Lisa Nandy need to know that trying to bundle streaming services into the BBC licence fee is a terrible idea that will make the government extremely unpopular at the next election.

We are absolutely not paying for our independent streaming services through the BBC, and we will make sure of that even if it means facing a fine or going to prison.

Ofcom and Lisa Nandy need to understand that we have had enough.

The Labour government came to power on a manifesto promise to address the barriers facing touring artists.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Andy Burnham announced that the next EU-UK summit will take place next month. The barriers facing UK artists looking to tour Europe must be on the agenda, as the financial challenges of EU touring continue to affect British music.

Jamie T spoke to Craig McLean at TheiPaper about the impact these barriers are having, revealing that he can no longer afford to tour Europe with his band. His comments underline the realities facing many artists, and why making good on Labour’s promise remains essential.

Last week, DACS and Lord Bassam of Brighton were pleased to welcome @ianmurraymp to Tottenham to see how artists and creative organisations are creating opportunities, supporting local communities and contributing to the UK's creative economy. 🎨⚽🤝

Visits to @sarabandefoundation and @spursinthecommunity showed how studio space, mentoring, skills development and strong partnerships can help unlock creative potential and open doors for the next generation.

Helping children stay safe online starts with having conversations at home. 💬
This week @ianmurraymp visited Kidbrooke Park Primary School to join a LEGO and Parent Zone Build and Talk session, meeting parents to hear about their experiences and discuss how we can help families navigate the digital world with confidence.

Enjoyed being part of the Beyond the Music festival and conference - my first time. Saw loads of people in the biz at Media City. Good panel discussion on the Government’s Music Plan and an excellent speech by minister @ianmurraymp . Great to see Greater Manchester Mayor @bevcraig there too.

Also spent some time in No 10 North.

And, being Manchester, it rained. A lot.

This week @ianmurraymp visited Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to meet the teams behind Tottenham Hotspur Foundation and Sarabande Foundation with Design and Artists Copyright Society.

From supporting young people to giving emerging creatives and visual artists the space and opportunity to thrive, these organisations are showing what investment in the creative industries can do for local communities. 🎨

40 years of Marchmont Hardware 🪜🔨🛍️🫙

In 1986, our predecessor Stewart founded Marchmont Hardware.

With his soulmate, Jo (Liane’s mum), they ran the shop together with Stewart as the main boss (or so he thought) and Jo as chief window dresser, cleaner and stock organiser aka the real boss.

Up until Jo’s untimely passing, she was an anchor in the business, we think about her everyday and know she is watching over us. And that both of us 100% inherited her eye for window dressing 🛍️

After Jo’s death, Liane became more involved with the business, Stewart took Liane on board and helped her through this new way of life she was faced with. Though tough, she managed to get to where she is today.

Liane found out she was pregnant in 2001, where @petalsbytheshore.leith was the first person to find out that Kayleigh was on the way. Then in June 2002, a miracle angel baby came along (haha, can you tell it’s me writing this?) 😇

When Stewart would go away to trade shows or conferences, Liane would step up and run the shop, whilst also juggling being a parent. This was the way of life for a while until Stewart became seriously unwell the first time with oesophageal cancer. How he survived the surgeries he went though, to this day is still a miracle.

Then suddenly in January 2018, we lost Stewart to secondary cancer. It was at this point, after loosing Jo and other family members to cancer, that we really did agree that cancer is a b***h.

Since that day, it’s been Liane & Kayleigh running the show. Through the many ups and downs, trials and tribulations, births and deaths we have somehow managed to get to milestone 40.

We could not have got anywhere near where we are today if it were not for our incredible community, customers, friends and family. Nevermind our wonderful suppliers both big and small.

Cheers to 40 years of Marchmont Hardware, here’s to another 40 🥂🍻🎂
