More Information
In MA: The Space Between Folds, independent artist Aysun Şahin Besci explores paper as a medium of transformation, memory and spatial thinking.

Rooted in her long-standing practice of origami, Besci brings together folded paper, modular structures, tessellations and mixed-media works, investigating what happens between the fold, the form and the space it creates.

Inspired by the Japanese concept of MA (間) — the meaningful space or interval between things — the exhibition invites viewers to look beyond the folded form and discover the pauses, traces and possibilities held within it.

SOLVE ET COAGULA

THE ALCHEMY OF NATURE, 2026,
mixed technique, gold leaf, hand made recycled paper by artist, 6 x 6 cm

The eternal secret is hidden in gold. It was a subject of exploration of all alchemists, the searchers of the stone of wisdom.

The images that surround us affect us. When we become aware of the binding connection we have with nature and with other people, we discover an inseparable link, which works as a magnetic force.

An artwork, which is made of recycled paper by artist, is part of that circuit with its uniqueness and fragility. A circuit, which includes all of us, from the moment we are born.

Exhibition: Ontology

🌍Canada

from September 26, 2026 until October 21, 2026

Artist: Zhan Zhang @zhanswork

Opening hours:
Monday to Saturday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

📍 Cedar Ridge Creative Center
225 Confederation Dr
Scarborough, ON M1G 1B2
Existence is not static; it is constantly intertwined with absence, memory, and what has not yet dissipated. Zhang is fascinated by creating things that people were never meant to see—or that were never meant to exist. These visually organic and hollow objects are neither specimens nor memorials, but rather attempts to embody a “presence through absence” inside the forms and structures.

Each individual work shares elements derived from the same raw material, much like sharing a genome, lived experience and memory. The use of delicate, hand-cut paper and fabrics as a medium offers a corresponding visual experience throughout the exhibition. When every tiny object—seemingly pale and unremarkable at first glance—coalesces into a galaxy, the absence is no longer emptiness, but becomes a powerful sense of presence.

Zhan Zhang is a Toronto and Shanghai based visual artist known for her soft sculptures and paper art animations, which possess a fragile and otherworldly quality. Like “line drawing,” paper cutting breaks down the medium into its smallest unit, the cut, attempting to place this often-dismissed form and material in a broader cultural context and reimagine the function of tactile practices in the contemporary environment of information overload and collective memories.

Zhang’s work has been exhibited at L.L. Contemporary Gallery (Richmond Hill, ON), Tom Thomson Art Gallery (Owen Sound, ON), Artspace (Peterborough, ON), Latcham Art Centre (Whitchurch-Stouffville, ON), Cedar Ridge Gallery (Scarborough, ON), Japanese Canadian Cultural Center (East York, ON) and fairs such as Art Toronto.

Exhibition: The 12th Geumgang Nature Art Biennale 2026

🌍Korea

from September 12, 2026 until November 08, 2026

Artist: April Capalungan @aprl.see

📍 Former Gongju Brewery
Nature Art Museum Ko, and the Jemincheon Stream Area
Gongju City, Chungcheongnam-do,
South Korea

More Information:

In its 23rd year since its inception, Geumgang Nature Art Biennale 2026 will present its 12th edition under the theme “Urban Nature Art: Let the Sunlight in through My Window.”

Here, “Urban Nature Art” refers to a conceptual framework that explores nature art and the ecology of the contemporary city through practices such as nature art, ecological art, eco-techne art, and public art engaging with nature in urban environments.

The “window” in “through My Window” is a metaphor that expands from each individual citizen’s window to the home, social community, and city. It represents an “interface for symbiosis” that mediates between the individual and the community, the interior and the exterior, and humans and nature.

The “sunlight” in the phrase “Let the Sunlight in” indicates that the Biennale goes beyond simply exploring the forms of nature. Instead, it draws attention to natural phenomena as non-human agents, as well as to the principles of existence and ecological processes through which nature operates.

Finally, “Let … in” conveys the aspirations of citizens who call upon participating nature artists to bring the sunlight of regeneration, renewal, and recovery into the cold, gray urban environment.

Artistic Director: Kim Sungho

Chairman: Ko Seunghyun

Exhibition: Treasures in Drenthe – Museum of Paper-Cutting Art
Netherlands

from October 08, 2026 until November 15, 2026

Artist: Ina Fekken

Opening Hours
Wednesday to Saturday 11 a.m.- 4 p.m.

📍 Museum of Paper-Cutting Art
Burg. G. van Weezelplein 10
9431 AG Westerbork

Treasures in Drenthe – Museum of Paper-Cutting Art – Project EH Fekken

On October 1st, an exhibition opend at the Museum of Paper-Cutting Art featuring the work of TiEnkE Zijlstra, teodora ionescu, Pauline Kick, Monique Temmen, Suzanne Hartmans, and myself (Ina Fekken), displayed alongside the museum's historic collection and cutting table.

TiEnkE created her work during a four-day residency at the museum. The other artists were selected through an open call.

Artist Ina Fekken is undertaking a collaborative project with the museum’s paper-cutting artists, exploring the connection and synergy between modern digital laser-cutting technology and the analog, physical act of cutting paper by hand.

One or more existing paper-cut artworks from the museum serve as a starting point. Fekken translates these works into her own interpretations through digital drawings, which are then used to create laser engravings on paper and/or to cut selected sections using a laser cutter.

The final works will combine hand-cutting with contemporary laser-cutting techniques. For example, paper may first be laser-engraved or partially laser-cut and then further refined by hand by the museum’s artists. The resulting collaborative works will be on display beginning December 1. Until then, Fekken’s Pleureuses (Mourners) series will be exhibited.
