Right now children in juvenile hall do not have the right to physical contact with their loved ones when they come to visit. It’s shameful. Youth in Los Padrinos juvenile hall wrote the Hug Act (AB 1646) with me to change this. Today our bill passed out of the Assembly with bipartisan support.

7 years ago today Nip was taken from us. The @neighborhoodnipfnd carries on his legacy of community service and empowerment. Blacc Sam is carrying on the legacy of ownership and entrepreneurialism. Lauren London is a towering example of grace, motherhood, and resilience. We all have a responsibility to carry the baton forward.

Russ means something different to LA. His love for the community is unmatched and his commitment to uplifting and inspiring others is felt in everything he does. Brodie inspires me. Today he was honored by @cw_heather.hutt and I was proud to join her. It’s Why Not Day in LA.

California just became the first State in the Country to give the RIGHT to physical contact with their families to youth in juvenile facilities.

This right (The Hug Act) was fought for and won by incarcerated youth in Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall who had been denied it for far too long. Tonight, we celebrated with their families.

AI tools that collect, monitor, and weaponize our most sensitive data have no place in the workplace. That’s why in California, we have banned them.

The wealth that was stolen during slavery and compounded for generations should be disclosed. The people should know. Now, in California, they will.
