A couple of months ago, our publisher, Susan, was a panelist at the 40th IBBY World Congress in Ottawa, presenting alongside speakers from Latin America and Cyprus on combatting silencing and erasure. There was something particularly special about this session. The lively conversation continued afterward with attendees and panelists exchanging ideas and making connections. So, of course, we had to take a photo together! @ibbycanada @ibby.international by @ibbycanada

The Children’s Book Picnic and Parade was a highlight of the 2026 IBBY World Congress!

Hosted by @ibbycanada with support from the staff of @bookbankcanada, this free, family-focused program shared the magic of international children’s literature with the children of Ottawa.

Dressed as their favourite book characters, children paraded from the Sunnyside Branch of the @opl_bpo to the Horticultural Building. There they celebrated stories from around the world with crafts, activities, and special readings with Canadian and international authors on the 2026 IBBY Honour List!

📚 A Message of Welcome to the 40th IBBY World Congress

We were pleased to receive a special message from The Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture and Minister responsible for Official Languages, welcoming delegates to the 40th IBBY World Congress.

Reflecting on this year’s theme, Listening to Each Other’s Voices, Minister Miller highlighted the extraordinary role children’s books play in shaping young minds, fostering empathy and understanding, and connecting us across cultures.

He also recognized the talented Canadian creators and publishers who contribute to a vibrant publishing sector and enrich children’s literature in Canada and around the world.

We thank Minister Miller for his warm message and for recognizing the importance of children’s literature and the work of the IBBY community.
