I do want to wish you all a Happy New Year. But I also want to tell you that perfection does not exist and a perfect new year with no problems won’t happen, and hey, that’s okay.
Some people celebrated New Years with friends, in forgein countries, or at home with family. And some pictures may have seemed a little too perfect and caused you to feel a little left out, or perhaps like you’re missing something. I assure you, you are not. I personally had to spend my NYE at home sick on the couch after knowing I was down with covid. And as much as I wanted to feel bad about it all, I wouldn’t let myself and I wouldn’t compare my situation to anyone else’s. I’ve learned to focus only on my life and to know that nothing is what is what it seems on social media. When I first created this movement, it was with hopes to break the mold of what we’re expected to do and be. I think the hype around NYE is overplayed and has become just another photo opportunity.

This year will be different, as is every year. It will bring its growth, sorrows, happiness, and whatever else it holds for you. And I know this year, for many of us, has started out on a rocky note, as it has for myself; but that is no indication that it will continue to do so, if anything I believe that’s the opposite. Whether you’re not feeling so well, having issues at home, dealing with financial obstacles, or trying to cope with mental issues and are overwhelmed with emotions keeping you down, I want you to know that this is life. You are not alone, you are not cursed, you are not abnormal and you’re not all about bad luck, you are human like everyone else and your problems are as real as everyone else’s, but you just happen to know all about your own issues but don’t know anything about anyone else’s and vice versa.

You’ll get through this inshallah, you will work hard and see past this. You deserve goodness and kindness in thought and in actions.

People misunderstand what women empowerment is about and what Feminism is. It’s not sexism and belittling men, it’s about EQUALITY, which is something we’re far from at this stage in the world. Today we celebrate each other and ourselves. Today, we thank other women for lifting us and supporting us because we can’t do it all alone. We can’t do it’s without help. I know it’s been a while since I’ve been posting. But I’ve not been able to juggle everything that’s going on in my life and still remain committed to my activities here.

I’ve deliberately chosen to keep our movement active because I will come back and work on it soon inshallah. In the mean time I hope you are keeping well and pushing through it all.

Forgive my absence. I’ve been going through a lot emotionally and trying to figure things out with my life. For the past couple of years I’ve felt so pressured by my own self to do and achieve certain things and my platform for I Can’t do it all is where I wanted to provide a place for women and men to discuss societal pressure and self pressure. I am carefully trying to figure out what it is I want to do and how I can keep providing content that is real, relevant and fun to my and to those who believe in me. Thank you for continuing to support me and this platform. Many other platforms have been set up after I set this initiative up under different names and slogans and I find it good that I’ve managed to make such a powerful global impact. I promise to come back soon with relevant content for you all.

This is extraordinary. Her response is remarkable. Her self assurance and confidence in her own self if not in her show or her projects is something to be learned from. We often associate immediate success with eternal success and immediate failure with eternal failure when in fact both are not true. We live and learn and we grow and we keep trying. We are not defined by our own side projects we are defined by our perseverance and how many times we can keep getting up. .

It’s always easier to think of what we want to change or enhance in ourselves than to think of what we love and we cherish about who we are inside and out. Today, I’m asking you to write down in the content section one thing you love about yourself physical or character traits and habits. I’ll start, I love my ability to be brutally raw and genuine even if it scares people off and makes me less likable and easy going. I also love my nose! .

I see so many people, all the same and no one truly “different”. There’s a fine line between loving something and expressing it. For years now I have refused to succumb to the mere label of an “influcener” or god forbid, a “fashionista”. I don’t what the hell they both mean and I am not neither of them. I am me, ever since I started Nos Masry, 3 years ago, I’ve expressed my need to create content that matters and not just expression for my love for fashion and beautify. Even though my talks were always serious and even though my followers did not jump to hundreds of thousands or millions I am the only one doing what I’m doing and that makes me so proud. I knew that there would come a time when people would find it useless to see useless content. And when I create the “I Can’t do it all” movement, I saw the and met real people who actually want real content and I saw through the people who just want to be entertained. Some people will complain and make fun of social media celebrities but they follow them and they have no patience or interest to discuss something serious, we can’t take these people’s opinions seriously. You will see several “influencers” in the past week and in the following months picking up on posts like this and messages from people like myself and they’ll try to tell you they’re taking a break from social media to figure out “who they are without it” without quitting it of course and you’ll find those defending what they do saying it “really does inspire others to be who they are”. In both cases, people like myself are now finally putting real pressure and asking for these people to have a real responsibility towards the content they’re putting out there and we are no longer content with looking at other women who have their lips and other parts of themselves done, always botoxed and always talking about self love and appreciation and realness when clearly that’s not what they stand for. Yes they are free to do what they want but they can no longer claim to represent something attainable, something real or something genuine that matters to our lives and that they actually influence anything in our lives besides an outfit. - Amira Shohdi by @icannotdoitall
