ICD-TT day. Goal was to have someone beat @luke_mstr course record from a few years back. (That’s right ladies and gentlemen, it was not held by @bradenreitz ) And we did! Three in fact topped Luke’s old record, and all five ICD athletes topped Braden too! Any guesses on who set the new standard?? Scenes from the Weekend that Was:
1) @anna_zyromski podiumed in the individual pursuit at collegiate track nats. Her teammate Mairen won!
2) Scratch race didn’t go so well for Anna, nor @gabbywrightsman. Rolling chicanes are tricky.
3) Gabby on the blue band for the points race
4) @_nico_martinelli on the blue band for the points race
5) @reaney_owen tucked in at the Cinzano 100 (Jake is off to our right)
6) @jake_zyromski bested at the line (or was it?) 7) This is the interior of La Scala, in Milan. My Buddy @jamiecampbell1958 shared it with me from a visit last week, and appropriate for the closing thoughts.

1) A couple of our athletes will be @indycycloplex the next few days competing in collegiate track nats. @milliganuniversity won’t be there, and @hayy_hayy111 surely wasn’t a trackie, but the love and honor continues to flow.
2) @charrell1724 did not clip his pedal here in turn one on The Hill. But he did get a load of good bike racing experience @gatewaycupstl
3) @nick.bike stopped by the team compound in @florissantcity for a pic with @singleton_coaching by @icd_cycling

Our deepest gratitude to everyone who rolled up to remember, honor and celebrate @hayy_hayy111 Even with storms bouncing around, we were overwhelmed with the turnout. The love and support was palpable. So many to thank. And so many to hold close in our hearts. About 120 rolled out from @singleton_coaching and another 20 or so joined us out on the road. Twenty-two miles later and nary a drop of rain, many gathered back at the shop for some pizza and more stories. Of particular note was the turnout from @mariancycling @heroesfndtn @roninvelosport @oliverwinerycyclingteam @momentumindy. “Make every pedal stroke count. Just like Haylan did.” by @icd_cycling

It is with incredibly heavy hearts that we share that yesterday we lost our teammate and friend, Haylan Engdahl.

Haylan was one of those people who just made everything a little better just by being there. He was incredibly kind, thoughtful, and friendly, but above all he was just so happy. He had an infectious positivity about him that was impossible not to notice.

Earlier this spring, Haylan had a training crash at team camp and broke his femur. It was probably one of the worst injuries most of us had seen. But somehow, he was still smiling, and insisting we should just “pop it back in”. He is probably the only person in the world who was smiling with a broken femur. But that was just Haylan. Even on what had to have been one of the toughest days of his life, he found a way to be positive, to joke around, and to make the people around him feel better.

That is how we will remember him. Not just as our teammate, but as the incredible young man he was. The person who brought an energy to our team that can never be replaced. We are devastated that we won’t share another ride, another conversation, or another laugh with him. But we are so grateful for every mile and every memory that we did get to share.

Our hearts are with Haylan’s family, his loved ones, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. As well as the other riders injured and the people who are beside them.

We love you, Haylan. We will miss you forever. ❤️ by @icd_cycling

Alumnus @maddox544 3rd overall and 1st Illinois in the 1/2/3 race, @boquist.carl 2nd Illinois, and current ICD athlete @jake_zyromski guest riding for @cwdbigshark

Next up: Bob Pfarr @kenoshavelodrome , Illinois state road race championship, and @gatewaycupstl (after a whole lot of move-in action today from @ben.halbig12 @jake_zyromski and @reaney_owen )

On the cusp of another weekend, with some podiums to catch up on from earlier in the week: @kenoshavelodrome for the Wisconsin Points Race Championships, @therealbarretclink with 3rd in the P/1/2, and 1st in the junior race. This mid-August weekend will have members from the squad racing a proper road race in TN (@devin_hatch025 @hayy_hayy111 @zanemeyer_ ) a crit in Illinois (@ben.halbig12 @boquist.carl @reaney_owen @jake_zyromski ) a big $ fondo in Fond du Lac (@double_decker_david @jakob.himself @macyroolester ) and the velo in Indy (@anna_zyromski ) as we are narrowing down for the season finale @gatewaycupstl over Labor Day Weekend! by @icd_cycling

Thursdays are velodrome racing @edrudolphvelo! $1000 junior scratch race and Indiana Cycling Development went 1 & 2. @bclinkcycling & @boquist.carl ). Over 15 juniors in the race. Later in the evening, @therealbarretclink was 2nd in the 1/2 points race. @gabbywrightsman continued her podium streak in the women’s race! #hardworkwork #juniorcycling #cyclingdevelopment The team is gearing up for the season finale @gatewaycupstl over Labor Day weekend. by @icd_cycling

Indiana Cycling Development podiums from the weekend that was:
- as many of our updates do, this one starts on the @kenoshavelodrome, this time with @gabbywrightsman winning the Wisconsin state championship in the 500m TT and 3000m IP
- Saturday at the @grand_river_shootout and penultimate day of @midwest_cup , @ajay.baker takes the win in the rain
- @bclinkcycling wins in Ionia too!
- While up in the woods behind the Cheddar Curtain, @macyroolester wins the short track on Saturday evening and
- Fourth in XC the next day
- Sunday in Gaslight Village, GR, Ajay takes second in the race (with a phat wad of cash in her pocket thanks to the mid-race @dogbitelawyer prime!) and
- completes the season @midwest_cup overall in third place.
- Also on Sunday, @ben.halbig12 wins after some great teamwork from @bclinkcycling
- which put Barret and Ben 1st & 2nd overall in the Midwest Cup season Omnium!
