Louisiana + Texas = 🏆💰🔥 by @icedupphotography

Lighting doesn’t just make a photo brighter… it gives the image dimension. 📸

For this shot, the hair light helps separate the subject from the background, creating that clean outline around the curls and keeping the hair from disappearing into the shadows. That separation is what gives the portrait a more polished, commercial feel.

Then comes the retouching. The goal isn’t to erase every pore or make skin look plastic it’s to control highlights, shadows, color and texture in a way that creates depth. When lighting and retouching work together, the image starts to POP without looking over-edited.

Photography is more than knowing what button to press. It’s understanding why the light goes where it goes and knowing how to finish what you captured in camera.

I’ll be opening up a few 1-on-1 Photography Training sessions covering lighting, retouching and the business side of photography for photographers ready to sharpen their craft.

Learn the light. Control the image. Create with intention. 📸⚡️ by @icedupphotography

Some photos don’t need a caption… they just need to be seen. 📸

The color isn’t Photoshop magic… it started with the light. 🎨📸

Shot on my Sony A7III, using Godox lighting + color gels to paint the scene with purple/magenta tones. Instead of just lighting the subject brighter, I’m using light to create mood, dimension, separation, and skin tone.

The key is balance: control the main light for clean skin, then let the gels introduce color without overpowering the subject. That’s how you turn a simple studio setup into something that feels like a full campaign.

Good photography captures you.
Great lighting creates a world around you.

COLOR. LIGHT. ATTITUDE. 📸⚡️

This set with reality TV star @Iampersuaian was all about making two bold colors fight for attention that electric blue backdrop against the neon green wardrobe. No complicated location needed. The impact came from lighting, color contrast, posing, and intentional framing.

Shot on my Sony A7III, I used Godox lighting to create that clean commercial look while keeping dimension in the skin. The goal wasn’t to flatten everything with light it was to shape the face and body, preserve realistic skin texture, bring out the makeup, and let the highlights separate her dark hair from the blue background.

Then I changed the composition without changing the concept:
📸 Tight beauty shot = makeup, eyes + texture
📸 Full body = fashion + personality
📸 ¾ portrait = the balance between beauty + editorial

That’s one setup giving you multiple pieces of campaign-ready content.

One thing photography has taught me: you don’t always need more equipment you need to understand what your light is doing. 💡

Which frame are you taking: 1, 2 or 3? 👀
