POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Progress does not always make headlines, but it shows up in the work communities do every day. In 2025, ICLEI USA members kept that momentum going. They navigated uncertainty, strengthened partnerships, and focused on what it takes to move from planning to implementation.

Here is what that looked like:

Funding is key for implementation
▪ 49 communities selected for the Municipal Investment Fund
▪ $11.5 million unlocked in funding and technical support
▪ 900+ projects in development

Better tools are supporting effective decision-making
▪ ClearPath 2.0 helping communities track emissions, model scenarios, and guide planning
▪ The Land Emissions and Removals Navigator is strengthening climate data on forests and tree cover

Peer learning is helping communities move faster
▪ 262 participants engaged in cohorts and peer exchange
▪ 456 hours of one-on-one technical assistance delivered

Communities are leveraging new resources and support
▪ 77 Local Governments Served Through ICLEI USA Initiatives
More than $9.3 million estimated funding secured through ICLEI USA-supported work, including technical services, the Race to Resilience Culture program, and the Colorado Resilience Internship Program, based on reported outcomes from participating communities.

The network continues to grow
▪ 50 new members in 2025
▪ 522 cities, towns, counties, regional governments, and Tribal nations supported

This is how progress takes shape at the local level. Step by step, community by community.

The U.S. local government delegation has arrived in Yerevan for Biodiversity COP17!

Over the next two weeks, leaders from around the world will gather to discuss how countries and communities can protect nature and slow the loss of plants, animals, and habitats. Our delegation is here to make sure local experience is part of that conversation.

Cities and counties make daily decisions about land, water, parks, development, and public infrastructure. They know what works, what gets in the way, and what support communities need.

On October 24, our delegation will join the 9th Summit for Subnational Governments and Cities, bringing those perspectives to discussions with leaders and partners from around the world.

Follow along as we share updates, photos, and stories from Yerevan.

Good morning from Baltimore! Day two of the Municipal Investment Fund (MIF) National Convening is underway, and participants are putting pen to paper on projects that could lower energy costs in their communities.

Today’s Customer Solutions Summit brings local leaders together for workshops and one-on-one coaching on energy efficiency, solar and storage, and geothermal heating and cooling. Communities are comparing project needs, connecting with providers, and exploring how similar projects could attract investment together.

Hello from Baltimore! We have the community vision. How do we get it built? That question kicked off day one of the Municipal Investment Fund (MIF) National Convening.

ICLEI USA CEO Saharnaz Mirzazad joined Ravi Bhalla, Mayor Van Johnson, Jessie Buendia, and Ryan Silber for conversations about keeping the lights on, protecting residents, and getting community projects ready for investment. MIF helps communities attract private investment to create jobs, lower energy costs, and build resilience.

Together with CGC and our co-host, the National League of Cities, we’re making connections to help get this work done. Stay tuned for more from Baltimore!

Thank you to our sponsors: Keramida, Bay Business Group, and Dundon Advisers LLC.

Urban infrastructure and food provisioning systems lie at the heart of both human and planetary well being.

As cities grow and urban risks evolve, there is a need to connect research and scholarship with policy
and action. The key is to develop solutions that are grounded in local contexts informed by global experience, beneficially transformed by new technologies and robustly analyzed via integrated systems modeling.

On September 23, Princeton University’s Metropolis Initiative along with M.S. Chadha Center for Global India, ICLEI USA and the Consulate General of India in New York City convened researchers and urban leaders for a science-policy-practice dialogue on ‘Urban Innovations for Carbon, Cooling & Circularity’.
The conversation delved into how cities can address the three C’s together, through systems data and models, transformative new technologies, policy innovations, and partnerships.
Watch this space for more highlights from the discussion!

What do local governments need next? We brought that question to Climate Week NYC and heard a clear answer: policies shaped by local experience, research communities can use, and more support to turn plans into funded projects.

We’re taking those conversations to Baltimore for the Local Leaders Assembly and the Municipal Investment Fund National Convening. Come along with us!
