October is Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness Month.

Today, we are honored to share a powerful story of loss, resilience, and hope.

Twenty-nine years ago, her mother was pregnant with twins. She didn’t know she had ICP, and sadly, her twin sister passed away in the womb. Years later, her family learned that ICP was connected to the loss.

Twenty-nine years later, at 25 years old, she became pregnant with her first baby — never knowing that she, too, could experience ICP.

She began experiencing unbearable itching, especially on her hands and feet. After testing her bile acids, she was diagnosed with Intrahepatic Cholestasis of Pregnancy (ICP).

Knowing her family history made the diagnosis even more terrifying. She spent her pregnancy facing constant monitoring, sleepless nights, fear, and eventually an early induction due to the risks associated with ICP.

But after everything she endured, she finally held her baby in her arms.

She says:

“It was worth every itch. Every sleepless night, every tear, every fear, and every painful moment was worth it when I finally held my baby in my arms.”

She is sharing her story so that another mom experiencing these symptoms knows she is not alone.

If you are pregnant and experiencing intense itching, especially on your hands or feet, please talk to your healthcare provider and ask about ICP and bile acid testing.

Thank you for sharing your story and helping us raise awareness about ICP and the families whose lives have been forever impacted by it.

My ICP Story | Magdalynn's Journey

"I found out I was pregnant in September 2025 at just 20 years old. As a first-time mom, I was so excited to meet my baby girl. Then I developed severe itching that left scars and kept me awake at night. I told my OB, and bloodwork confirmed Intrahepatic Cholestasis of Pregnancy (ICP) at 27 weeks. My bile acid levels were extremely high, and I began frequent monitoring and medication. I was constantly worried about my baby and hoping to see her moving at every ultrasound. At 36 weeks and 4 days, I was induced and welcomed my beautiful, happy baby girl."

Her story is a reminder that severe itching during pregnancy should never be ignored. ICP can put both mom and baby at risk, but recognizing the symptoms, getting bile acids tested, and receiving appropriate monitoring and care can make a difference.

Thank you, Magdalynn, for sharing your ICP story and helping raise awareness.

If you're experiencing moderate to intense itching during pregnancy, especially on the hands and feet, talk to your healthcare provider and ask about ICP.
