Congratulations to Boise Education Association member Amanda Holland, Idaho's 2027 Teacher of the Year! Holland, second from left, received the honor this morning in front of a school-wide assembly at Washington Elementary in Boise, where she is a second grade teacher — and the crowd of students went wild (sound on!). Idaho Superintendent of Public Instruction Debbie Critchfield, far left, was on hand to give the award, and shortly after the cheering subsided CapEd presented Holland with a $10,000 check. IEA couldn't be more proud! by @idahoea

📣 Idaho educators have a voice on the national stage — and there’s strength in numbers.

Idaho is one of six states that make up the Northern Tier, a coalition of smaller-population NEA affiliates working together to make sure the needs of educators in states like ours aren’t overlooked.

From advocating on Capitol Hill to shaping decisions within the NEA, educators from Idaho, Alaska, Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota are finding common ground and amplifying each other’s voices.

As IEA President Peggy Hoy puts it: “We raise up our voice by banding together. And when you do, you’re stronger together.”

Six states. One voice. 💪

🚨 IDAHO EDUCATORS: If your school district participates in the Idaho School Benefit Trust, pay attention to what your district is doing right now.

Districts and charter schools participating in the Trust have until Sept. 10 to decide how they will cover their share of the Trust's $13 million shortfall. Those decisions could directly affect whether outstanding medical claims for educators and their families are paid.

👉 Contact your local association or school district to learn how your district is responding before the Sept. 10 deadline.

Then read the latest from Idaho Education News (🖇️ link in bio), and keep checking IEA Reporter for updates as this situation develops. by @idahoea

Today meant something.

For educators in rural North Idaho, having NEA President Princess Moss here wasn’t just a visit. It was a chance to be seen. To be heard. And to know that the challenges they face — and the work they do every day for their students and communities — matter at the national level.

We’re proud that President Moss came to Idaho to listen, learn and hear directly from the educators who know these communities best.

From rural Idaho to the national stage, our voices matter. And when we stand together, none of us stands alone. ❤️

Watch for more tour coverage in IEA Reporter, IEA socials and @neatoday in the coming weeks! by @idahoea

🤖 Idaho is developing new K-12 standards for artificial intelligence — and educators are helping shape what comes next.

Four IEA members served on the committee that drafted Idaho’s proposed AI standards, bringing educators’ voices directly into conversations about how schools respond to rapidly changing technology.

“It’s people first, AI as a tool, and then how we use that tool ethically, safely, and effectively,” said IEA member and standards committee member Melyssa Ferro.

The standards are still moving through the approval process and educators will have more opportunities to weigh in.

➡️ Learn what’s in the proposed standards, hear from IEA members who helped write them and find out how you can get involved at the link in our bio.

We are saddened to learn of the passing of former Idaho Education Association President Terry Gilbert.

A longtime educator who remained highly engaged in Idaho’s education community, Terry was a fierce advocate for public education and Idaho students. We extend our deepest condolences to Terry’s family, friends and all who knew and worked alongside him.

Watch IEA Reporter in the coming weeks to learn more about Terry's decades of service to Idaho's students, public schools and fellow educators.

📍 NEA President Princess Moss is coming to Idaho!

Shortly after taking office as president of the National Education Association on Sept. 1, Princess Moss will head west — including a stop in North Idaho next week. We’re excited to welcome her and give her a firsthand look at the opportunities and challenges facing Idaho’s public school educators.

As IEA President Peggy Hoy shared:

“I am thrilled President Moss is traveling here to better understand what’s happening on the ground, especially in some of our rural locals. ... President Moss will see that no matter what is happening in the Statehouse, our members will always work to improve their profession and help students succeed.”

A longtime music educator and union leader, Moss brings decades of experience organizing and advocating for public schools to her new role. We can’t wait to welcome her back to the Gem State!

👋 Get to know NEA’s newly elected president before her visit by clicking the link in our bio.
