a little symbolism behind my latest painting :)

this piece explores the history, healing, & longevity of the ginkgo biloba tree—one of the oldest tree species still alive today.

yin-yang ginkgo leaves represent the tree’s long history in traditional herbal medicine & the idea of restoring balance within the body

sturgeon bc they are a prehistoric fish & it ties with the bottom ginkgo leaf that appears more frail bc it is how ginkgo leaves looked during prehistoric times

the woman shows mother nature, healing, & the human connection to plants

ginkgo fruits on the side tie back to the female figure bc only female ginkgo trees produce fruits

fish fading into leaves to connect the ancient life underwater to the ginkgo we recognize today

overall, the piece is about the connection between past & present, nature & healing, and longevity & change….but of course, it’s always open to interpretation :)
