"Reversing the Gaze and Rethinking Euro-Mediterranean Relations" was the proposal Michelle Pace, Professor and Senior Research & Policy Analyst, put forward yesterday at the opening conference of the Aula Mediterrània 2026-2027 lecture series.

In this conversation, Pace advocates for a Europe that regains credibility by acting consistently with its own values and standards across the Euro-Mediterranean region, engaging Mediterranean societies as equal partners in the joint management of major challenges.

She argues that this is particularly relevant in a changing geopolitical landscape, where Mediterranean countries no longer see Europe as their partner of choice and are seeking alliances with other regional and global actors to advance their strategic and economic interests.

The session was co-organised by the IEMed and the @ibei.barcelona 's Master Degrees.

Luciana Pacucci explicará cómo los modelos innovadores de vivienda que impulsa como responsable de proyectos en Fondazione Housing Sociale (Italia) amplían el acceso a viviendas de calidad y fomentan la cohesión social.

This lecture series start from concrete issues to explore the multiple ways in which Mediterranean relations are shaped and transformed: from environmental migrations and the climate crisis to the memory of the Nakba and the situation in Gaza; from relations between Europe and the Islamic world to current policies of cooperation and externalisation; and from urban and protest spaces to literary and cultural creation as forms of resistance.

Amb el títol d' "AMORS E CANSÒ", el concert de @capelladeministrers clourà la primera jornada del seminari "Jaume I: Memòria, història i projecció mediterrània", que organitzen a Barcelona i Poblet els dies 19 i 20 d'octubre l'IEMed i l'Institut d'Estudis Catalans amb motiu del 750è aniversari de la mort de Jaume I.

Per què assistir al cicle de conferències Aula Mediterrània 2026-2027?

Per la mirada interdisciplinària sobre la Mediterrània, pel contacte amb experts internacionals, per l’obertura de perspectives noves, per venir a un punt de trobada entre persones amb itineraris formatius diferents però amb interès compartit per la Mediterrània...

Aquestes són algunes de les raons que ens han donat quatre de les persones que en la passa edició van assistir a més de la meitat de sessions i van obtenir el Diploma d’Aprofitament que atorga l’IEMed.

🌍 Europe is ageing. Its Southern Neighbourhood is young. Migration policy is becoming more restrictive and externalised.

📚 Our new EuroMeSCo Policy Study: “Aligning or Fragmenting? The Future of Euro-Mediterranean Migration Governance under the EU Pact(s),” asks whether the EU Pact on Migration and Asylum and the Pact for the Mediterranean can reconcile security, labour mobility and demographic sustainability; or whether they entrench the contradictions between them.

Check out our authors’ analysis:

🔸 Gökay Özerim (Yaşar University) maps four possible futures for the region to 2035, and finds that the most likely one is not the most sustainable.

🔸 Francesco Pasetti (CIDOB) and Eleonora Celoria (FIERI) compare migration policies in Italy and Spain, and show that restrictive externalisation is not the only option on the table.
