Last rehearsal on March 18th (2022) before the fund raising concert that evening, so here's "warts and all". The concert was an experience I'll never forget. We are still living times we will never forget, sadly.

Kiitos @tapanaisenkimmo kun soitit mun kanssa! 💙💛 by @iepukka

Saturday 15th November 2025 & the 60th anniversary concert of my current job, Kankaanpää music school
💕
In 1964, sometime during Fall, my grandfather was here with his wind orchestra, invited to give concerts. The purpose was to get the town folks to understand that they need a music school of their own. The trip was succesful, as we can still see and feel and live. Kankaanpää music school was founded in early 1965. It’s such a funny, quirky and interesting coincidence that I am here now. And my biggest task in the concert was to conduct a chamber orchestra, formed of advanced students & professional musicians.
💕
We were very lucky to play music composed especially for us, for this concert. Matei Gheorghiu, who won the Uuno Klami competition last year, made three concertinos for student soloists. One for violin, one for trumpet, one for pianists (4 hands). Conducting these works was both frightning and joyous, the result was brilliant and the young ones seemed to enjoy themselves.
💕
The concert had also 2 other commissioned works, one for a giant symphonic ensemble by Antti Nissilä and one song for small ensemble, singers and a huge choir, by Kaisa Kulhua. I played flute in both, no photos but lots of memories. There was also few folk music pieces and one number by a local young singer-songwriter.
💕

💜 This weekend was about flute and friends, in all possible ways. Our amazing crew, the board of Finnish flute association @suomenhuiluseura organized an international, 3-day-long, flute festival at the Musiikkitalo in Helsinki. Last time we organized it was 3 years ago, the very first FFF ever.

💜 Days were extra long and hours of sleep minimal, but it was so much fun. I am now (yet again) a professional note stand mover, concert programme folder, festival pass hand-outer, electronic page turner user and all kinds of things! Feel free to hire me.

💜 What I maybe waited the most was hearing concerts from @helene_boulegue_flute & @garethmclearnon & Ian Clarke. And they were so much more than I could have imagined. Also hearing Zoom tube on 2 flutes was hilarious & brilliant!

💜 Now it’s time to take it easy for a day & travel back home, Tuesday will be all about teaching my flute kiddos again.

🇫🇮 Finlandia needs no introduction. My one woman symphonic band is proud to present this fiery rendition, played on a balcony not far from Jean’s birth home (2 blocks). We would like you to notice the graceful glissandos, here and there. Very delicately brought to you with this wonderful instrument.

Happy Midsummer! 💚
Here’s a traditional song to set the mood. It’s Swedish originally but we sing it always when school ends in Spring. Or used to. These days it varies. Saxophone master Jukka Perko has an amazing arrangement of this but I think mine is better.

Even Richard Scarry knew flutes are the best! And as I spent the whole Fall semester of 2024 catching mice (from the basement of my work home), it’s only appropriate to have one on my arm. Playing flute 👌🏻

Kiitos @blacklilycustomtattoo @ninasilavuori 😊💕
