The off-season is in full swing!

Whether it’s true off-season work, coming back from an injury, or just getting prepped for pre-draft workouts, there’s one simple truth:

If you want to be your best, the work NEVER stops.

And shout out to my guy @stevewitdashots for always bringing the 🔥🔥🔥 with the pics! by @ifastbasketball

Growing up, basketball was always my favorite sport.

From getting buckets in my gravel driveway to breaking down game film on VHS tapes, I loved every aspect of the game.

When I got to high school, I started working out because it seemed like a logical way to make myself a better player.

Whether it was extending my shooting range, adding a little more zip to my passes, or just being able to bang with bigger, more physical kids, I knew that working on my body would help elevate my game.

But at some point, every athlete has to hang the sneakers up - and while I always loved playing the game, I ultimately knew that if I wanted to make my mark in basketball it wouldn’t be playing…

…it would be coaching.

Over the years, I’ve been blessed to work with athletes at every level of the game.

From middle and high school kids who are just getting started to NBA All-Stars, it’s been quite a wild ride to say the least.

And even though the locations might have changed, the goal has always been the same:

To make every basketball player we train get the absolute most out of their body.

Which is why I’m stoked to formally announce IFAST Basketball - your new home for high-performance training for basketball players.

If your goal is to learn more about the game or how to develop your body, this is the page for you.

We’re so excited about the future of IFAST Basketball, and hope you’ll come along for the ride with us! taken in IFAST Indianapolis Fitness and Sports Training by @ifastbasketball

Turned my hobby into my career...so I never work a day in my life.

That might sound a little cliche, but on 99% of days, it rings true.

I love my job.

I love the people I work with.

And I love that this little S&C gig keeps me curious, thinking and always trying to get a little bit better.

2025 was an amazing year, and I can’t wait to see what 2026 has in store! taken in IFAST Indianapolis Fitness and Sports Training by @ifastbasketball

One of the most important aspects of a basketball speed program is being able to quickly move in ANY direction.

Accelerating into a close out.

Backpeadling.

Shuffling side-to-side.

And of course hip turning and shuffling or running laterally to cut off a drive.

You may not train them all at once (or in every session), but all of these skills should be in your speed program at some point during the week!

BTW - should out to THE edmondsumner for the killer demo! by @ifastbasketball

As strength coaches we LOVE to test strength…

…especially because strength is arguably the easiest physical quality we can measure!

“Hey bro…just lay down on this bench and press the weight up as many times as you can.”

But this leads us to a great question:

Is maximal upper-body strength the most impactful thing we should be measuring with our basketball players?

I highly doubt it.

Now I’m never going to tell you that foundational strength training is a bad thing, especially for our young hoopers.

Most of these players need time to develop connective tissues, get stronger, and build confidence.

But please don’t equate your 1-RM on a bench press with your ability to get buckets or lock people down, because it’s definitely not that simple.

Instead, measure what matters to the best of your abilities.

Whether that’s jump testing on a wall with chalk, performing some Vertec jumps, or diving in deep on braking metrics with some @hawkindynamics force plates, the goal should be to measure the physical qualities that are most similar - and impactful - to our sport. taken in IFAST Indianapolis Fitness and Sports Training by @ifastbasketball
