She’s an author! Shoutout to my village for coming through (dressed as their favorite musical artists of course) to celebrate the publication of my first law journal article, “Mo’ Samples, Mo’ Problems: Traditional Conventions of Modern Black Music and Sampling Rights”, out now in the Virginia Journal of Sports and Entertainment Law! As always, all glory be to God 🙌🏾 by @ifewt

To God be the glory! For the last 2 years I have dedicated myself to the proposition of launching KOLO: a publishing company by Black women for Black women. It goes without saying that navigating law school at Harvard and nurturing this passion project simultaneously was not easy; even so, I’m grateful that God supplanted me with temerity and blessed me with the perfect team to bring this dream to fruition.

What began as an idea for a magazine publication comprised of short stories in 2020 has blossomed into a premier literary publishing house advocating for emerging and established Black authorship.

Since the age of 12 I’ve been writing poetry and competing in oratory competitions. However it wasn’t until college that I realized that I had unknowingly been signing away the copyrights for some of my work. After much prayer and introspection I decided to be a change agent for the intellectual property of Black women in the literary world. Our principal mission @KOLOPUBLISHING is to create a space for BIPOC authors to be published on their own terms. Nevertheless, our team has never strayed from our mandate which is to ensure that people of color are no longer taken advantage of in this industry!

I would be remiss if I didn’t thank my parents and @uche_6 for nurturing my gifts at a young age, our KOLO team @jass.mariie and @ifeoma_ashleyy for the unwavering dedication to our goals, @Converse and @Converseallstars for providing the initial seed funding, and the rest of my friends and family who have each in their own individual way provided the necessary support that has been the backbone of this endeavor.

With that being said, as CEO of KOLO it is my honor to announce that our publishing house’s first book, titled “Hey Queen”, by author @skykennedyy with illustrations by @annieharrigan is set to be released in 2023 📚🙌🏾

Spent the past few months writing, directing and choreographing a film with @tobaolo and @sha.michellee on Black creativity, culture, and history told through dance and fashion for @eleganzashow. I can’t tell you how grateful I am to God first and foremost, and for everyone that believed in our vision and worked on this piece- from our fantastic EPs and amazing fashion coordinators to our phenomenal dancers. And a huge shoutout to our videographer/editor/producer @meno.made. Without him, none of this would have been possible!! “The Black Effect” drops this Friday at 7:30 and I guarantee you, this is one you don’t want to miss (link to FREE show tickets are in my bio)

Beyond excited to share this! Over the past few months I have had the incredible opportunity to work with @converse, helping to build the new #ConverseAllStars platform that strives to aid young creatives that use their creativity with intent. They trusted me enough to allow me to write this spark film to introduce this new platform and AllStar community to the world. Big shoutout to @issarae for being my mentor on this piece and of course couldn’t have done it without @leoaguirre and @jamandphilly who directed and scored respectively💫 stay tuned for more! by @ifewt
