Olmsted Bicentennial celebrating 200 years of extraordinary landscape design! ⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊ Photo of the day 📷: Hugh Hamshaw Thomas @emeraldnecklaceproject Congratulations ! Location: Scarboro Bridge, Scarboro Pond, Franklin Park ⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊ 2022 will mark the bicentennial of Frederick Law Olmsted (April 26, 1822 - August 28, 1903). To celebrate, Frederick Law Olmsted National Historic Site, in partnership with Emerald Necklace Conservancy, has created Olmsted Now, an inclusive coalition that connects communities and organizations to host Greater Boston's bicentennial of the Brookline-based Olmsted. Olmsted Now is part of a larger, nationwide commemoration, Olmsted200, hosted by National Association for Olmsted Parks. In Greater Boston, where Olmsted culminated his expansive career in the establishment of the first full-scale landscape office in the country, we can explore how Olmsted’s contributions--to journalism and abolition, to public health and emergency relief, to urban planning and natural preservation against privatization--relate to the groundwork for today’s calls for environmental justice and spatial justice. We can reckon with Olmsted’s work through the broader lens of history, from the ancient tenets of indigenous land stewardship to current civil rights struggles. Haze From West Coast Fires Comes To New England "You likely noticed a haze across the sun the past couple of days, with an orange orb hanging just above the horizon at sunrise and sunset. This eerie glow has been created by smoke in the atmosphere, which has traveled from the western part of the country all the way to the East Coast. The concentration of fires across the West is spewing this atmospheric film and has created some beautiful sunrises and sunsets — and even a notable odor of burnt wood in some places. This also prevented temperatures from reaching their full potential on Tuesday with highs in the low- to mid-80s instead of the upper 80s to near 90, which would have occurred with full sunshine." by David Epstein @wbur ⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊ Photo of the day 📷: @ttltommy Congratulations Tommy!
