It used to be
I figured that if I could pull
And pull
And pull again
Hard enough

Against all the stubborn things

Something might move
Something might give

But no

So nowadays
I find giving
Is easier over time
Not in exactly
Not giving in
But out
When I can
Giving out what I can

Nowadays
I figure
Things might start moving then
When I start to let them go
When I stop pulling

‘Latisha we miss you’ - A poem organically written by iLikeZach

Latisha we miss you
And we miss Jessica
And we miss Vel
And Lamielie and Victoria
And Tanya who used to read books with us at the library in the summertime

We miss walking under streetlights
and Mercedes-based DJs
With no where to go
Who spin the block forty thousand times just to show us they heard and understood what we meant when we walked under streetlights

Because they had walked this way before
And talked this way before
And could turn up the volume now
And rev engines loud
And be heard and understood

We miss that version of the hood that had simpler promises
like cathedrals had
Like pizza spots had
Like skate rinks and house parties had

We miss merengue mixed with dancehall mixed with bling rap mixed with funk

And hips that spoke to hands that spoke to folding tables and bass speakers

We miss the ignorant bliss that came with being true believers

But only by a few minutes
Only by a few heartbeats
Only by and by and buy and bye

and gone

From one place to the next

Missing home

By just a bit

And playing catch up on the phone

And blessed under

Muhammad Ali words
smooth and sweet
passed from me to you
unvoicifying everything
on the radio
rendering it all indivisionable
And broad
on the big screen

And Miss lauryn Hill playing on transparent black cassette tapes spinning brown chocolate micro reels until the woman
finished her song
killing us all softly

Or Nate Dogg
Or O-Dog
