My October 7 Shawl and the meaning behind it. I knit this shawl as a memorial of the horrific day 3 years ago. It serves as a reminder that when your heart breaks, it creates an opening for the light to come in.
My shawl was controversial but all the kindness and support that I received shined so much brighter.

Pattern by @liza_wool_studio and many thanks to @tanyasingerknits @beautifullyjewish for giving us a community when so many knitters turned their backs.

I’ve always been like this 🙂⭐️

This photo was taken at my Chumash celebration play. I was a star in the story of creation. The book says my name in Hebrew and the word Chumash: the Jewish Bible (aka Old Testament)

My great grandparents moved to New York to escape religious persecution and dreamt of a place where their grandchildren could safely be Jewish.

Blocking my Rhinebeck Sweater… from the point of view of the oscillating fan. I like to use a fan to help dry my sweater quicker when it’s on the blocking board. Especially when it’s a little humid outside. Do you do this too?

Yesterday @tanyasingerknits and I went on an adventure to the Ohel in Queens. It is the Chabad Rebbe’s grave. Whenever I need to fill up my spiritual cup and really send prayers and give thanks, I come here and I’m so lucky to have it nearby. People come visit this spot from all over the world. It’s near both airports so it’s very normal to see luggage everywhere.

We got there on a super quiet day. I wasn’t sure how it would be between Rosh hashana and Yom Kippur but this was definitely the time to go.

We wrote our notes, lit our candles, and visited the grave. Then we ripped up our notes and threw them in. It’s so beautiful and meaningful. Everything I’ve ever prayed for at the Ohel has come true. It’s a very very different comparison, but for me it gives me the feeling of being at the Kotel (Western Wall).

Then I took Tanya to the neighborhood where I grew up and it blew my mind to be there with her! So nice to spend the day together ❤️

I tried on my Rhinebeck Sweater last night while it’s still on the needles for 2 reasons. 1- to make sure it fits. I try my sweaters on along the way while I’m knitting so I can make adjustments for fit. And 2- because I wanted to add an extra color at the waist to accentuate it. I wanted to make sure that it was hitting right at the waist which it is. It’s going to be a subtle color shift because I’m in the neutral low contrast part of the sweater but I wanted to add a little something there.

This pattern, Instant Crush by @jojilocat is really fun and a great empty canvas to play with colors. I’m hoping by Friday I may be finished with the body and I’ll show it on my weekly Live!

Thanks to the @hvtextileproject pledge and the #jojifallkal for keeping me on track.

The yarn is @wingandaprayerfarm Happiest Yarn (from the happiest sheep obviously). Somebody asked me if I’m making a chunkier weight version of the Instant Crush. I’m just following the regular pattern. It calls for 2 strands of laceweight held together but there’s also an option of using 1 strand of DK. My yarn is a little lighter than DK but it fluffs up to a DK gauge so that’s what I’m using.
