🌱 BAY AREA JAJU SOLIDARITY BRIGADE REPORTBACK RECAP 🌱

Last Sunday, Nodutdol Bay Area was joined by delegates from the Jaju Solidarity Brigade from Nodutdol, Korea Policy Institute, BAYAN, and Freedom Road Socialist Organization, who shared their learnings and insights from their travel to South Korea this past August.

We heard firsthand accounts from delegates about the impacts of US military bases, the camptown sex industry, and the massacres of political prisoners during the Korean War.

Delegates also shared their learnings from the Korean peoples’ resistance against US militarism, including their participation in protests against the US-South Korean military alliance on August 15, National Liberation Day, which brought together over 10,000 people in Seoul from trade unions, student organizations, women’s groups, and other progressive organizations.

We ended with audience Q&A and made connections to other struggles across the Asia-Pacific and in our own communities.

This past August, we brought a delegation of 26 organizers to South Korea, representing anti-war and progressive organizations from the United States, Hawai’i, Guåhan (Guam), Puerto Rico, the Philippines, and India.

The Jaju Solidarity Brigade (jaju / 자주 meaning sovereignty in Korean) met with progressive organizations in South Korea, visited sites of active struggle and historical significance, and marched alongside other Koreans on National Liberation Day on 8.15 under the banner of ‘US Out of Korea.’

ILPS Norcal stands in solidarity with Haiti Action Committee to protect Temporary Protected Status for the 350,000+ Haitians, and all migrants, who are at immediate threat of deportation due to Trump revoking TPS.

As Trump’s quota for 2,000 ICE detainments per day rages on, tearing apart families and wrecking people’s livelihoods, the US also hosted the United Nations General Assembly from Sept 8-26.

Global leaders convened to discuss economic progress and development—Meanwhile, Trump has continued to plunder the resources of other countries through initiatives like Pax Silica, and wage wars of aggression that force workers and peasants to move abroad in search of livelihood, only to be met with brutal fascist attacks in the US.

ILPS NorCal stands in solidarity with ILWU Local 6 workers on strike!

Local 6 is on strike to ensure that the American Sugar Refinery (ASR) corporation does not take away their overtime pay, sick days, seniority, and healthcare for retired employees.

ASR, which is the biggest cane sugar company in the US, reportedly only pays $1.35 to make 100 pounds of sugar, meanwhile ASR refuses to pay for basic needs like healthcare and sick days for Local 6.

All along its supply chain, ASR and C&H source sugar from countries throughout the Global South, and farmers and workers are exploited all along the supply chain. As an anti-imperialist alliance, ILPS NorCal uplifts the struggles of striking workers and the toiling masses fighting for decent livelihoods, from here in the belly of the beast, to the peasant farmers of the Global South asserting their right to till the land.

PEOPLE OVER PROFIT! Defend Negros NorCal members and ILWU Local 10 workers give unwavering solidarity to the @ilwulocal6 and Local 10 fighting for a fair contract and their right to collective bargaining.

C&H reaps super profits through the exploitation of sugar workers and violent state repression in the Negros Occidental and throughout the Philippines.
