🌱 BAY AREA JAJU SOLIDARITY BRIGADE REPORTBACK RECAP 🌱 Last Sunday, Nodutdol Bay Area was joined by delegates from the Jaju Solidarity Brigade from Nodutdol, Korea Policy Institute, BAYAN, and Freedom Road Socialist Organization, who shared their learnings and insights from their travel to South Korea this past August.  We heard firsthand accounts from delegates about the impacts of US military bases, the camptown sex industry, and the massacres of political prisoners during the Korean War. Delegates also shared their learnings from the Korean peoples’ resistance against US militarism, including their participation in protests against the US-South Korean military alliance on August 15, National Liberation Day, which brought together over 10,000 people in Seoul from trade unions, student organizations, women’s groups, and other progressive organizations. We ended with audience Q&A and made connections to other struggles across the Asia-Pacific and in our own communities.  Thank you so much to our speakers, our attendees and our partners, and Uptown Body & Fender for hosting us!  US Out of Korea! US Out of everywhere! Toojeng!

FROM NEGROS TO CROCKETT, PUT PEOPLE OVER PROFIT!! The fight continues for peasant farmers in Negros Occidental who till sugarcane in the Philippines through the Defend Negros Island campaign, after 19 people were massacred by the Armed Forces of the Philippines after farmers decided to organize a bungkalan and assert their right to till for their own livelihood rather than the benefit of greedy landlords. We learned that C&H workers at ILWU local 6 were fighting against the corporation stripping their health benefits and overtime away from them and even retirees and that the very sugar they refused to unload at Crockett was from Negros Occidental. In linking the issues of peasant masses with the working class across the global supply chain, Filipino community members were able to resonate the call to defend tillers and support the picket of local 6. The ask was to “do something cool” with the C&H logo, which was a perfect way to highlight the labor of farmers at the start of the supply chain. Originally the banner was going to say “From Negros to Crockett,” but the night before, got word that the Tai Herald holding the sugar would be relocated from Crockett at the sugar refinery to a port in Richmond in order to try to circumvent the strike. Luckily those in ILWU Local 10 held it down and frustrated their efforts. We really saw the principles of international solidarity embodied here and it further emboldens the call FROM NEGROS TO THE BAY, END THIS BLOODY SUPPLY CHAIN!!
