Too many running shoes. Too many foam names. 🤯

ZoomX. Lightstrike Pro. FuelCell. DNA Gold. PWRRUN PB. FF TURBO.

They sound completely different, but here’s the thing: those are brand names, not the underlying material names.

When you look underneath the marketing, you’ll commonly find foam families like EVA, TPU, PEBA and TPEE, along with different blends, formulations and manufacturing processes.

And there are 3 things about running shoe foam that are worth knowing:

1️⃣ “TPE” isn’t one specific material.
It’s a broad category of thermoplastic elastomers. TPU, TPEE and PEBA are different materials within that broader family.

2️⃣ “More bounce” doesn’t automatically mean better.
Energy return gets a lot of attention, but research shows that energy return alone doesn’t explain running economy. How a foam compresses, deforms and interacts with the shoe’s geometry and plate matters too.

3️⃣ Your super shoe doesn’t stay “super” forever.
One study found that after 450 km, a PEBA-based racing shoe lost its initial running-economy advantage, with its performance becoming similar to the worn EVA shoe tested. That doesn’t mean every super shoe suddenly dies at 450 km, but it shows that midsole performance can change with use.

So next time a brand tells you about its “revolutionary new foam”, look past the name.

What is it actually made from? And how does it behave under load?

Save this carousel for your next running shoe purchase. 👟

And if I got something wrong, tell me. I’m always happy to correct it.

Nike just turned its marathon lineup into a three-shoe race day system. 👀🔥

Meet the Nike Apex, Alphafly 4 and Swooshfly.

Three very different approaches to racing, depending on how fast you want to go and what you need from your shoe.

⚡️ Apex | $350
Built without compromise for elite-level speed. 40mm stack, ZoomX LT, double-stacked Air Zoom units and a new carbon Flyplate.

🏁 Alphafly 4 | $280
The updated marathon classic. A more versatile option for the wider racing crowd, from fast to mid-pack runners.

👟 Swooshfly | $145
Nike’s entry point into the carbon-racing world. More accessible, more forgiving and designed to bring race-day technology to a much wider group of runners.

Three shoes. Three different philosophies.

Which one would you pick for your next marathon? 👇

Mizuno Sky Prime is in for testing. 👟

This is Mizuno going all-in on max cushioning.

The Sky Prime is a brand-new, non-plated max-cushion daily trainer built around a massive 47 mm heel / 41 mm forefoot stack, giving it a 6 mm drop. At around 295 g / 10.4 oz for a men’s US 9, there’s a lot of shoe underfoot, but the interesting part is what Mizuno has put inside it.

⚙️ What’s inside
• MIZUNO ENERZY NXT+ on top, a new PEBA-based foam designed to bring more softness and bounce
• MIZUNO ENERZY NXT EVA underneath for a firmer, more stable base
• Dual-foam, non-plated construction
• Wide platform for added stability
• X10 carbon rubber outsole for durability

So where does the Sky Prime fit in Mizuno’s lineup?

Think of it as the big-mile, max-cushion cruiser rather than another super trainer. Unlike the plated Neo Vista, the Sky Prime skips the plate and focuses more on protection, comfort and controlled bounce for those days when pace isn’t the priority.

🏃 Best use
Easy runs
Recovery days
Long, relaxed miles
High-mileage training
Walking and all-day comfort

I’ll be putting plenty of miles into the Sky Prime to see how all of that translates on the road.
Stay tuned for the detailed review.

BREAKING: Nike just changed the way it thinks about race-day shoes. 👀

Just days after unveiling the Alphafly 4, Nike has announced two more marathon racers: Apex and Swooshfly.

But the interesting part isn’t just the shoes. It’s the strategy.

Nike is calling this its new “Race-Day System of Speed”:

🏁 Apex — $350
Nike’s most aggressive race-day shoe, built for runners chasing every possible second. It gets four stacked Air Zoom units, ZoomX LT foam, a carbon Flyplate and a 40mm, zero-drop platform.

⚡ Alphafly 4 — $280
The middle of the lineup, designed to balance speed, responsiveness, comfort and stability over the marathon.

👟 Swooshfly — $145
A much more approachable carbon-plated racer aimed at making race-day technology accessible to more runners. It introduces Nike’s new SkyX foam.

Three shoes. Three different race-day experiences.

And honestly, this feels like a pretty significant shift in how @nikerunning is approaching the super-shoe category.

Which one would you pick for your next marathon? 👀

Apex, Alphafly 4 or Swooshfly?

Both Apex and Swooshfly launch in 2027.

Your running shoe might soon change during your run. 👀

At the @adidas HQ in Herzogenaurach, Germany, inside the brand’s House of Innovation, adidas revealed the Adizero Gear Shift, a concept shoe with a tunable plate that can switch between softer and firmer settings.

And it gets even more interesting: one version can connect to your watch and automatically adjust the plate at specific points of your run.

These are still concepts, but the future of running shoes is looking very interesting. 👀

Mizuno just dropped the HYPERWARP 96 and the name says it all: 96 grams. 👀

At around 96g in a US9-equivalent 27cm, Mizuno is pushing this into the extreme end of the racing-shoe category, with a full-length 3D carbon SMOOTH SPEED PLATE, new MIZUNO ENERZY XP+ midsole and a stripped-back DUAL SKIN UPPER. The shoe comes in at 36–39mm stack with a 3mm drop.

Mizuno says the shoe was developed around its Beyond Light philosophy, chasing extreme weight reduction without giving up cushioning, energy return and stability.

And there’s another wild detail: only 696 pairs will be made worldwide. 👀

The HYPERWARP 96 launches December 4 on @mizunorunningca official online store and at Mizuno stores, priced around $500 USD/$700 CAD

96 grams. Carbon plate. 3mm drop. 696 pairs.

The super shoe arms race just got even lighter. 👀

Mizuno’s Hyperwarp 96 and adidas’ Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3 are taking two slightly different approaches to the same obsession: how much performance can you pack into an incredibly light racing shoe?

At just 96g vs 97g, the numbers are almost identical. But the technology, ride, and philosophy behind them are very different.

So if you had to choose your next marathon racer:

Mizuno Hyperwarp 96 🟠 or adidas Adios Pro Evo 3 🔵?

The adidas Adizero Adios Pro 5 is here. And adidas clearly didn’t start from scratch. 👀🔥

A lot of what made the Adios Pro Evo 3 so interesting has found its way into a more complete, race-ready package.

Here’s what caught our eye:

🚀 New carbon-infused EnergyRods Energy Rim designed to let the LIGHTSTRIKE PRO compress and rebound without a traditional plate getting in the way

⚡ Tweaked LIGHTSTRIKE PRO + Energy Rim reportedly delivers 9% more energy return than the Pro 4

📉 4mm drop, down from 6mm, giving the forefoot more LIGHTSTRIKE PRO underfoot

🪶 177g in a men’s US 9, making it 15g lighter than the Pro 4

🌬️ LightLock 2.0 upper gets lighter and more breathable while keeping the lockdown

And @adidasrunning has also filled in the medial midfoot cutout from the Pro 4, adding more stability to the platform.

The result?

A lighter racer, more LIGHTSTRIKE PRO under the forefoot, a new Energy Rim construction, and a design that clearly borrows from adidas' most radical racing shoe yet.

The Adios Pro 5 looks like adidas' attempt to make record-chasing technology a little more accessible for everyday racers. 🏁
