At the NMDC Hyderabad Marathon 2026. This is my 3rd Full Marathon and it is in this event that I realised that a Marathon is more than a mental battle rather than a physical battle. Mann ke jeete jeet, Mann ke haare haar.

With a target of 4 hours and 5 minutes, I decided to go at 6 minutes per kilometre in the first 32km and then slowly accelerate in the last 10km. When I started running, I felt I could run at 5:30 minutes per kilometre very easily. I decided to keep this pace throughout. The weather was very pleasant and I found myself hitting 5:10 splits too and my average pace at the 28km mark came to 5:23 minutes per kilometre.

However, after that fatigue started kicking in slowly and I found myself running at 5:40 pace. At 30km my average pace was 5:24 minutes per kilometre and then my Garmin got discharged (a problem which started this year). Till 32km I was going steady. After that there was a severe pain in my left knee, that I almost felt like abandoning the race. However, I told myself that I wasn't walking at any cost. I kept running even though I was running slower. People were overtaking me. In the 41st kilometre, the 4 hour pacer who was behind me overtook me with his bus.

After crossing the 41km mark, I told myself that I have the potential to do the race under 4 hours and I am not settling for less than that. I started accelerating to the extent I could and even though the 4 hour pacer was 2-3 seconds ahead of me, my official timing was 3 hours 59 minutes and 23 seconds! I was happy, elated, in complete bliss. My first official sub 4 hour marathon!

Positives that I take from this event:
1) I was consistent throughout hitting 20+ kms every weekend.
2) I got my Strength Training and stretching sessions consistently.

Areas that I could have done better:
1) I should have got more 30+ kms in because mileage is key.

The NMDC Hyderabad Marathon was an amazing event with hydration, cheering and everything being on point. The Gachibowli Stadium is simply lovely. It was nice catching up with old buddies and meeting new ones. Last but not the least, I am grateful to my family, friends and the Almighty for being able to do this.
