POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Los Angeles is a city of dreams. But for thousands of people, it’s also a place of survival.

RiseUp! is a short film about the unhoused crisis, dignity, and the quiet strength it takes to keep going when the world has turned away.

We’re making this film with a small crew, a lot of heart, and a belief that storytelling can shine light on issues that too often remain unseen and dismissed.

Production has officially begun! Follow along as we document the journey behind the film.

A brutal fight, a knife to the gut, and a trip to the doctor to get stitched back together. It’s always fun when a role lets you get a little beat up 🤠🎬

@paulanthonyscott - eff you, my mule plays better poker than you!! 🖕🏼

@nikileetompkins - thanks for saving me 🩺

We had the chance to escape LA for a couple of nights and spend some time backpacking through Point Mugu State Park.

Day 1 took us about 11 miles from Sycamore Canyon Campground up to Mugu Peak and into La Jolla Valley Campground, an incredible hike-in campsite surrounded by rolling hills and ocean views.

On Day 2, we hiked another 5 miles back toward Sycamore Canyon Campground, where we spent the evening relaxing by the beach and soaking in the slower pace of life.

There’s something special about stepping away from the noise, carrying everything you need on your back, and reconnecting with nature. Grateful for the fresh air, good company, and a reminder that sometimes the little things are the big things⛰️🌊

This is Los Angeles. Not the postcard version.

While developing RiseUp!, we went out to document the unhoused crisis ourselves to understand the reality behind the story we’re telling.

DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT

I’ve lived in Los Angeles for most of my life, long enough to see two very different cities exist side by side.

One is the city people imagine: opportunity, creativity, ambition, dreams.

The other is a city many people walk past every day without really seeing. Thousands of people living without stable shelter and/or living paycheck-to-paycheck. Stories that rarely get told beyond statistics or headlines.

RiseUp! began as a way of shining light on one particular story among the thousands unfolding quietly on the streets of Los Angeles.

The film follows Link, a young man carrying a heavy weight of guilt and shame from his past. Beneath his attempts to stay hopeful is a quiet struggle with self-worth.

Through Link’s story, the film explores something deeply human: the fight to believe that your life still has meaning, even when everything around you suggests otherwise.

RiseUp! isn’t meant to speak for people experiencing homelessness. It’s meant to remind us that every person we pass on the street has a story, a past, and a future that still matters.

We’re making this film with a small crew, a lot of care, and the hope that storytelling can create empathy where distance often exists.

Thank you for following the journey! More from the production soon.
