📣 2027 THEATRE TOUR ANNOUNCEMENT!! 📣

REMEMBER ROMEO
Shakespeare’s enduring love story, remembered and relived 🎭

Two older actors, former lovers, meet again after fifty years. She is living with memory loss; he carries the memories she struggles to hold. They have unfinished business and matters of the heart to resolve, life and death decisions to be made, raw emotions to be laid bare.

When a lost 1960s TV version of Romeo and Juliet flickers back to life on the walls around them, starring the couple in their youth, their bittersweet past becomes inescapable.

Live performance and film merge in a moving exploration of love, memory, and the stories we cling to as everything else fades.

🎭 An imitating the dog and @thedukeslancaster co-production
🎭 Supported by @lancasterartsuk

📣 Announcing DEAR EARTHLING...

@lightuplanc returns this autumn and we're delighted to again be producing a brand new artwork with composer James Hamilton for the festival and its theme of 'No Boundaries' 🙌

After Dear Einstein and Dear Joan, it's now time for Dear Earthling... ✨

In 1997 Jerry Linenger left earth for a 5 month stay on the Mir space station, leaving behind his baby son. Throughout his stay he wrote a series of letters to be sent back home. Funny, moving, thoughtful and filled with longing, these letters offer a small insight into an extraordinary experience.

Combining live music, spectacular projection-mapping visuals and live performance, Dear Earthling... will be showcased in the majestic surroundings of Lancaster's @lancasterpriory

We hope to see you there ✨

📆 Thursday 5 - Saturday 7 November 2025, 5pm-10pm
📍 Lancaster Priory

Our recent trip to London and Leeds was an unforgettable journey into the heart of cutting-edge, interdisciplinary storytelling. After conducting a workshop for the brilliant theatre community, the ETFI team was invited to a film studio in Leeds to witness the creative process behind “Remember Romeo”—a bold new co-production by imitating the dog and The Dukes, Lancaster. This post-classical experiment is a breathtaking, poetic exploration of love, aging, and the fragility of human memory, inspired by and including the rich text of Shakespeare’s romantic tragedy Romeo and Juliet. The studio session offered a mesmerizing glimpse into this internal labyrinth, brought to life through media technology and the digital mastering of these images. by @imitatingthedog

💻 New on the blog: 'First Steps in a New Collaboration'

"This is the freedom that comes with just doing"

We've had the pleasure of collaborating with the @etfi.institute this summer, welcoming them to the UK for a series of workshops with both ourselves and students at Central Saint Martins.

The workshops were an incredible, invigorating, immersive experience, encouraging us to reconnect with the essentials of theatre-making and art-creating. We were also able to share our own practices with ETFI, inviting them along to our Remember Romeo R&D sessions.

Read our co-director Andrew Quick's reflections on this artistic exchange over on #LatestNews on our website #LinkInBio

📸🎭 Photos from the Remember Romeo R&D room!

Early days but we’ve been getting stuck into our next touring production, testing out some tech and design concepts and running through bits of script.

It was fun, it was illuminating, it was…a bit warm 🥵😅 But what a brilliant week!

Our thanks to @sodiumfilms for playing host (and doing their best to make things as cool as possible!), our co-producers @thedukeslancaster and supporters @lancasterartsuk, and to all those who joined us in the room or in the prepping of materials, including Abby Clarke, Andrew Crofts, James Hamilton and performers Joanne Howarth, Harmage Singh Kalirai, Laura Atherton, Amélie Stewart, Kishore Walker and young performers from a local college.

And shout out to @edhombre for nipping in on one of the days to take some great shots for us, which you can see a few of here and more over on our website 📸 #LinkInBio

Projected on to the exterior of the stunning 955-year-old Selby Abbey, Homeward is a dazzling collaboration with the local community ✨

Celebrating the town’s different stories and the unified feeling of finding home, it also features characters created in workshops with residents, representing the stories they shared with us ❤️

🎥 Homeward was commissioned by @nowthenselby.st and co-produced with @mediale_uk for Selby Light 2026, and was filmed by the brilliant @sodiumfilms at the event. This film was then screened at Now Then!’s summer festival in June.

What an incredible honour it was to help @stjohnshospice light up Lancaster Castle for this year’s Moonlight Walk ❤️

It was a very special ruby anniversary celebration for the organisation - hence the red! - and a moving way to mark their impact on the district, as well as honour all of the people who have a connection with the Hospice.

The whole event was incredible (check out photos on their social media) - thank you for inviting us along, St John’s Hospice 🫶

Shout out to our Simon, Alan at CAPO, Steve at InFocus and the good folks at Stage Sound Services for their generous support and creativity in lighting up the castle.

“At the heart of everything, we’re storytellers, and we like telling stories”

🎥 Our co-Artistic Director, Simon Wainwright chatted with filmmakers @sodiumfilms during the making of Homeward about how our video-mapping installations have become part of the fabric of imitating the dog's storytelling - from their magic and their meaning, to their opening of doors ✨

Also looking at how Homeward sprung into life for @nowthenselby.st's Selby Light 2026, it's getting us in the mood for revisiting stories from it as we return to Selby & Sherburn this weekend 🎪

Homeward was commissioned by @nowthenselby.st and co-produced with @mediale_uk
Concept, creation and realisation by imitating the dog
Made possible and free thanks to funding from @aceagrams, UKSPF and @northyorksc
