IMAGINE… Romeo & Juliet done by 5 actors, while one of the actors drinks multiple shots. Never would I have predicted that I’d have a full-time job of getting drunk and performing shakespeare. Now as the show comes to an end, I can’t help but feel that parting is such sweet sorrow.

To the cast and crew: I couldn’t have imagined a better group of people to have done this with. I love you all like FAMILY.

Thank you @deepellumartco for the stage.
Thank you @drunkshakespeare for the incredible opportunity.

“There is only art.
Art that must be created. Whatever the cost.”

THE SHAPE OF THINGS
a chilling, villianous, brilliant dark-comedy by Niel Labute.

A director with a serious passion, a marvelous cast & crew, an intricate layered text, and a contagious enthusiasm for the art we were creating made for a truly fulfilling process.

The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) [revised] [again]

3 actors. 90 minutes. All 38 of Shakespeare’s plays.

This marathon of a show was probably the most physically challenging performance I have ever done. We could fill swimming pools with the sweat we put into this show.
Yet I would gladly do it all over again.
Working with the people in this cast and crew is always a blessing. No worries, just talent, hard-work, and laughing until we hurt.

Shoutout @ghostlighttheatrecotx
Thanks for yet another chance to bring ideas to life.

Finally, to everyone who braved the June heat to watch three fools make a mess of Shakespeare… that’s love, and we are endlessly grateful. by @imjaydenmathews

Romeo & Juliet: The Melodrama

Mercutio is one of my favorite characters in all of shakespeare. The opportunity to play him AGAIN (in addition to Prince Escalus!), only this time in a hilarious melodramatic re-telling was such a rewarding experience!

I truly feel that my craft has improved leaps working on this show. Here are a few reasons why this happened;

•the cast; filled to the brim with tremendous performers that I got to watch, learn from, and play off of. Plus, A WIZARD of a pianist who, not only played alongside of us, but played WITH us with skillful, wildly impressive comedic timing.
•a creative, thoughtful, and hardworking crew that made this one of the most enjoyable and efficient production processes I’ve been through.
•audiences EAGER to yell, cheer, boo, hiss, and throw popcorn at my face
•A wonderfully hysterical script and the freedom to make it our own.

•finally, 26 performances (7 weekends) to take all of these elements and work the show over and over. To play. To build. To experiment. To explore. I had no choice but to push past my plateaus and grow.

HUGE thank you to everyone involved!
I’ll miss y’all.

At the beginning of the year I had the great privilege of directing my first full length production.

“The Outsider” by Paul Slade Smith

A farce that is not only incredibly timely, but tremendously thoughtful, and hilariously written (down to the stage directions).

I’d be lying if I said I didn’t feel a little imposter syndrome standing in a leadership position in front of some of the most talented and hilarious actors I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with.

These actors, whom I greatly admire and look up to, offered me their trust, their respect, and an impressively high-level of work ethic. They poured so much life into their characters, and truth into their performances. I couldn’t help but feel humbled by waves of gratitude, just for the opportunity to study them in the practice of their craft.

THANK YOU to my cast.
THANK YOU to my crew.
THANK YOU to Ghostlight Theatre Company (previously FAC) for being a fountain of opportunity and an avenue for creativity. @ghostlighttheatrecotx

Finally…
THANK YOU to each and every one of you that came out to see it. Your support means more than words can say. taken in Cox Playhouse Theater by @imjaydenmathews

Ashes of Aquitaine was such an incredible experience for me as an actor. I was incredibly honored and humbled to have the chance to be surrounded by some of the most talented actors i’ve had the pleasure of working with. Watching them and learning from them as they crafted these characters was a priceless and valuable opportunity. In addition, I got to play a role that challenged and pushed me outside of a box I was familiar with.

John Lackland is an ass. He’s a selfish drunkard, a brat, and a spoiled boy. He’s also a neglected and damaged kid who was dealt a very bad hand. When I first read the script, a lot of his dialogue made me really uncomfortable and I almost didn’t audition. I am so glad I did.

Playing a role like this tested me in so many ways and forced me to grow as an actor. It was a role I needed to play BECAUSE it made me uncomfortable.

Thank you so much to the wonderful cast and crew that helped build this beautiful story. by @imjaydenmathews

“And thereupon these ERRORS are arose”

Being part of a 3 person cast, performing a 20 character Shakespeare play was SUCH a thrilling and rewarding challenge. I had so much fun putting on this production, from the first rehearsal to the closing matinee.

Huge thanks to our incredibly creative and out-of-the-box director and my 2 wonderfully talented castmates. They all put an intense level of work and commitment to this show, and it was a pleasure to share the stage with them.

Let’s not forget to mention the most CLUTCH stage manager who was quite literally always prepared for everything to go wrong.

p.s. also thanks to my relentlessly supportive mother, who sat in the audience for this confusing, chaotic show seven of the nine performances…🫶🏼

Sometimes in theatre you are cast in a role so unlike yourself that you struggle immensely to relate to them. This was not one of those roles.
A dreamer, an underachiever, charming in an irritating way; Ryan was such a fun role to play because I found a lot of truth in his words, thoughts, and actions. I wasn’t alone. Everyone in this cast really put work into rooting these imaginary characters in truth. It was an honor and a blast to work with each and every one of them.

Huge thanks to everyone who came out to see it and to Richardson Theatre Centre for the stage and the opportunity to be a part of this wonderful show! taken in Richardson Theatre Centre by @imjaydenmathews

DISCLAIMER: Fake Blood, Gore, & Violence

I’m very late but I felt I needed to make an appreciation post for this show. The Lieutenant of Inishmore is over. A dark comedy like no other… this show was a terrific way to come back to acting. Such a strong cast, a smooth organized process, and a welcoming environment. Thank you Lakeside Community Theatre, and Keegan Arnold for this opportunity. I had a lot of fun!🥳 by @imjaydenmathews

It’s time! This play is unlike any I’ve ever done or seen. It is incredibly witty & breathtakingly funny, yet it’s probably the most dark & violent play I’ve ever been a part of.
.
We’re performing the next three weekends, please get your tickets and come support this wonderful cast. I guarantee you will laugh, gasp in horror, and laugh some more.
