It was a pleasure working on this junction box on the Albertbridge road in Belfast last weekend. Thank you to @daisychaininc for asking me to do it! It was great to be apart of the Upskilling programme and get to meet lots of the other brilliant artists who are adding their work to junction boxes across the city.

My design concept was intended to celebrate the return of the starlings to the Albert Bridge this year. Thanks to the work of local conservationists who worked on minimising the light pollution on the bridge, the birds have returned bringing their much loved murmuration spectacle back to the city. It’s an example of the significance of nature recovery and grassroots organisations creating a powerful impact. @wild_belfast

I painted features from the Albert Bridge itself and depicted a view from the bridge looking out across the Lagan towards the Sirocco chimney and the Belfast hills beyond. (See the end of the post for the inspo).

Here’s some recent experiments 🍁

I’ve been exploring more sustainable ways of printing on fabric during my residency at Seacourt. I made my own mordant paste and applied it to cotton using screen printing, painting and rubber stamps, before dyeing the samples with natural logwood dye. The mordant allows the dye to bind only to the treated areas, creating these dark purple designs.

My residency in @seacourtprints has given me the time and space to explore more environmentally sustainable ways of screen printing which is really exciting.

Screen printing tends to be very chemical and plastic heavy- using plastic tapes, strippers and acrylic inks to print which are then washed out into the water system. This has meant pursing a more environmentally consciously way of printing is pressing and important.

I’m chuffed that this technique has worked and excited to see what it leads to next!

I had the lovely opportunity of getting to facilitate a screen printing workshop in @mountstewartnt at the weekend for the @niscifest as part of the Shorelife Festival
I made a design which highlighted some of the biodiversity that can be found on Strangford lough as well as some of the historical features and landmarks!
Using second hand T-shirts donated by the best at @oxfam.vintage we upcycled T-shirts with the print and made posters to keep and take home by @imogendonegan

My piece for the @the.girls.bathroom exhibition in @solelostore_temp back in April 🙃
Made with screen printed plywood and ceramic. It was fun making this and getting to play with ceramics.
My piece ‘Bathrooms are for everyone’ was in response to the politicisation of gendered spaces and how this can contribute to exclusion and discrimination, particularly towards trans people. The theme of this exhibition was fun and brought out lots of interesting responses, thank you to @ana.fish.art and @hmconstance and all those involved in bringing the show together.
