Our functional space has had a complete revamp and it’s looking better than ever 🙌

This is the spot where all of our group fitness classes run (which are included for every base membership ).

It’s also open 24/7 for anyone who wants to get their strength and conditioning done in their own time.

We’ve also rolled out brand new programming from a world-class coach @thelousaway through our Training Hub, so no matter when you train, you’ll always have structure and guidance to follow from the best.

Plus, for anyone juggling kids while training, the kids’ area is right there so you can keep an eye out while you train.

The space has already been buzzing with energy!

The last of our meet the team! Meet the owners Laura and Shane + mini owners Billie and Ted.

1. What got you into fitness?
Shane: I played sport all my childhood and started going to the gym when I was 15, it just grew from there.
Laura: I used to have to walk from school to meet my Mum at the gym. I was hanging for my 14th birthday so I could start using the equipment.

2. What do you love most about coaching at Impact?
Shane: I love programming a “you go, I go” on a Saturday morning and seeing members partner up and push each other through a tough workout.
Laura: I love taking the odd Saturday class and putting the members through their paces! I love the community at Impact, how everyone encourages one another and welcomes anyone.

3. What do you want members to feel after your session?
Shane: Motivated, happy and fulfilled so they come back.
Laura: Accomplished. I love programming a session that feels crap when you’re doing it, but you’re proud you stuck it out when it’s done.

4. Biggest gym ick?
Shane: Someone who sacrifices form to chase “the burn.”
Laura: Slamming pin-loaded weights or staring.

5. Coffee order?
Shane: Skinny cap.
Laura: Small skinny cap or long black.

6. Most used coaching phrase?
Shane: “Let’s finish it off guys” (with miles left on the clock)
Laura: Probably “you’ll survive” when someone complains

7. How would you describe your coaching style in 3 words?
Shane: Hard, educated, fun.
Laura: Enthusiastic, structured and fun (hopefully lol).

8. Best advice you’ve ever been given?
Shane: “Action is the foundational key to all success.”
Laura: “Fall forward” meaning, don’t have a Plan B to fall back on. If you fall forward, you have no choice other than to make it work out.

9. What’s one thing people don’t know about you?
Shane/Laura: We sold our house to chase our dreams.

10. What’s one thing you’re currently working on improving?
Shane: Our businesses (always).
Laura: Not being a control freak. by @impact.moama

Want to build a bigger, stronger bench press? 💪

Here are 7 bench press variations you can use to target different weaknesses and improve your overall pressing strength:

1. Pause Bench Press
Pause the bar on your chest before pressing. Great for improving strength off the chest, control and competition-style benching.

2. Tempo Bench Press
Uses a slower lowering phase to increase time under tension, improve technique and build better control of the bar.

3. Close-Grip Bench Press
Uses a narrower grip to place more emphasis on the triceps. Great for improving lockout strength.

4. Spoto Press
Pause the bar just above your chest without touching. Helps improve control, stability and strength through the bottom portion of the press.

5. Larsen Press
Bench with your legs extended and no leg drive. Great for developing upper-body pressing strength, stability and control.

6. Block Press
Shortens the range of motion by pressing from blocks. Useful for overloading heavier weights and strengthening the mid-range and lockout.

7. Banded / Chain Bench Press
Adds more resistance as you press towards lockout. Great for developing speed, power and stronger lockout strength.

Different variations target different weaknesses — choosing the right ones can help you break through plateaus and build a stronger bench. 🏋️‍♂️
