acupuncture can be life changing, but often times can be subtle. when small shifts happen in our bodies they can sometimes go unnoticed, so when patients ask me for acupressure points they can use at home, I try to suggest points that pack a big punch so they can feel better sooner!
here are some of my faves or “highlight star underline” points (iykyk) and some of the various, wonderful things they can do

* hold or massage in clockwise circles with firm pressure each point for 1-2 minutes on either or both sides. take deep breaths and visualize breathing into the point you’re massaging as you go :) by @impartialearth.acu

One month has flown by… As today was my last day at Mnazi Mmoja Hospital, it coherently wrapped up my clinical hours as a student. I’m having a hard time finding the words to describe this experience, but overall, I can say grateful.
I am so grateful to have been able to end my studies in a place, as culturally rich and abundant as it is beautiful. I’m grateful for my education, and all of those who have taught and supervised me along the way. I am grateful for the people I have met here, and will carry forever in my heart. It was a rollercoaster of emotions, that is for sure, but the feeling in my heart today is a symbol of all that I have been working towards for the past three years. I can’t believe it, and I’m so excited to be entering the next chapter of my life with new tools in my acupuncture belt!
This medicine will never seize to amaze me, in all of its ways. It’s clear to me now that, although the conversations being had with patients are life changing, and feeling heard is a gift, this medicine goes beyond words, and beyond translation.
I guess all I can say is wow. And thank you to everyone I’ve met along the way.

And a special thanks to Dr. Hafsa (second picture) for taking me in on my first day as one of her own. Her first words to me were “you are never alone here” and with that was nothing but truth. A while later, she told me she could be my Zanzibar “mumma” and she fell nothing short of that.
Another special thanks to Sami (third picture) for waking up at 6am this morning and hand crafting this graduation cap. It was the least expected, yet most special thing anyone has done for me and I’m so thankful, not just for the cap, but the conversations, honesty and love she has shown me. taken in Mnazi Mmoja Referral Hospital by @impartialearth.acu

Wood season is upon us!!!

After the stillness of winter, the body begins to move again, just like the sap in the trees and the green shoots pushing through the soil.
This is the time of the Liver and Gallbladder. When in balance, we feel clear, decisive, creative, and alive. When stagnant, we may feel tension, irritability, restlessness, or that quiet sense of being “stuck.”
Spring asks us to stretch.
To wake gently.
To move what has been held.
To make space for what wants to grow.
You might notice it in your body:
tight shoulders softening with movement,
deeper breaths finding their way in,
a subtle urge to cleanse, to begin again.

This is a beautiful time to support your system with acupuncture, movement, and seasonal eating!
Step outside. Let the wind touch your face.
Eat fresh, vibrant foods.
Move your body in ways that feel like opening.
Just like nature, you are allowed to begin again 🌱 by @impartialearth.acu

We have a tendency to rush through winter awaiting the arrival of spring, but that is contrary to the very nature of winter itself.
Winter is the season of the Water element, a time when life turns inward and strength gathers quietly beneath the surface.
In Chinese medicine, the Kidney and Bladder meridians belong to the water element, thus guiding this process. They help us feel safe enough to rest and supported enough to soften.
The Kidneys hold our deepest reserves (jing) the slow and steady energy that sustains us.
The Bladder moves like a long, gentle river along the back body, inviting release without force and flow without urgency.
Together, they remind us that stillness is not stagnation, and rest is not giving up, but how resilience is restored.
Winter is an invitation to move slowly, listen inward, and reconnect with the quiet wisdom of nature. by @impartialearth.acu

As autumn arrives, the world begins to whisper instead of shout
The trees loosen their grip, the sun leans low, and the earth exhales a long, steady breath
In TCM, it is the season of the Lungs and Large Intestine, the organs of release and reflection.
A time to let go, to clear space, and to gather your energy inward, like the trees drawing sap back to their roots.
Care for your body as nature does
Eat warm, cooked foods, stews, roasted roots, ginger, and pears to moisten the Lungs.
Keep warmth close to your skin by using scarves, warm socks, and indulging in early nights
Breathe deeply to strengthen your Lung Qi, and sigh when you need to release.
Rest more than you think you need.
Like falling leaves, allow yourself to release what has run its course.
The body, like the earth, heals best when it moves in rhythm with the season :) taken in A Balanced Body by @impartialearth.acu

As spring’s Wood turns to summer’s Fire, we enter the literal heart of the year, a time of warmth, joy, and radiant yang. A time of year where the Heart takes center stage, cradling the Shen, our spirit, our mind. The emotion associated with the heart is joy.
But even joy, when untended, can blaze too bright.
Overstimulation may show as restless sleep, anxious thoughts, flushed skin, or fire rising where calm once inhabited.

To remain nourished, sip on room temperature waters, even add a small pinch of sea salt to establish more yin for balance.
Welcome watermelon, cucumber, mint, sprouts, peaches ~ gentle guardians of yin.
Move slowly and mindfully.
Dance, float, gaze at the clouds or how the grass moves in the wind, laugh, but don’t forget to cry.
Shine, don’t burn.
Glow, don’t scatter.

Come see me for acupuncture to stay harmonized and nourished. Treatments are designed to support your Heart, calm your mind, and keep your systems balanced.
I will be adding some extra days here and there to my schedule at A Balanced Body sprinkled throughout the summer! Booking link in bio. 🫶🏻
And as always, take care xxx

Acupuncture and Reproductive Health:

Acupuncture offers a deeply nurturing approach to supporting pregnancy, postpartum recovery, and conception. During pregnancy, acupuncture can help alleviate common discomforts like nausea, fatigue, and back pain, promoting overall relaxation and well-being. It’s a gentle yet effective way to enhance circulation, regulate hormones, and reduce stress, which are crucial for both parent and baby’s health.

In the postpartum period, acupuncture aids in speeding up recovery, balancing hormones, and easing any lingering physical or emotional strains from childbirth. It supports lactation and helps manage conditions such as postpartum depression or anxiety, fostering a quicker return to a balanced state of health and vitality.

For those trying to conceive, acupuncture enhances fertility by improving blood flow to the reproductive organs, regulating menstrual cycles, and reducing the effects of stress on the body. It complements assisted reproductive techniques by creating a conducive environment for conception to occur naturally.

As always, acupuncture embraces the body’s innate wisdom, offering a nurturing and energetic approach that supports each phase of the reproductive journey with care and integrity.

Please consult with your first line of health care practitioners/doctors before booking your appointment 🫶🏼

Auricular Acupuncture (Ear Acupuncture) is something I use almost every treatment! I love the ear points so much, you can feel the effects almost immediately, and it is such an accessible way to treat the whole body!
But how does it work?
In Chinese medicine, the ear is seen as a microsystem because it reflects the health of the whole body. Just like a map, different parts of the ear correspond to different organs and body systems. By examining and treating the ear, practitioners can identify imbalances in the body and treat them accordingly. Therefore, almost everything is treatable just by using the ear. How neat!
The ear also resembles a upside down fetus, which you can also use as a map to find many points correspond directly to the positioned fetus in utero, how cool is that? by @impartialearth.acu

Spring be springing and the sprouts be sprouting!
As we shift from the quiet stillness of winter to the awakening of spring, we step into the energy of Wood – the force of growth, renewal, and vision. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, this is the time to plant seeds, both literal and metaphorical. It’s a season for expansion, for creativity to flow, for the quiet stirrings of motivation to turn into action. Just as nature rises from its rest, so too do we feel the pull to dream bigger and embrace what’s blossoming within with softness and ease. 🌱
Here’s some pictures of wildflowers and sprouts to lighten your day 🥰 by @impartialearth.acu
