Push #3: The Production

Sooooo… yeah. In case you didn’t know, I’m not a filmmaker.😅

I don’t have this all figured out. I don’t know exactly how it’s going to come together. But after a conversation with a close friend—and after navigating both personal and secondhand friendship wounds—I realized something deeper was asking to be explored.

I thought I was just supposed to research what’s out there about friendships.
Have conversations. Ask questions.
I did NOT have “create a film” on my bingo card.
But God did.

What kept surfacing was this: the essence of friendship has quietly eroded. And many of us are carrying stories—good, painful, complicated, unfinished—that deserve to be named and heard.

There’s a famine plaguing the land.
Not of people.
But of friendship.
So I’m digging into my storytelling bag and trusting this process. And I’m so excited and thankful to be doing this alongside my friend @mikebfilms .

Push #1: The Podcast

I never thought when God told me to start my public speaking career that through the process the opportunity to start a podcast would fall into my lap.

How did this happen? Because I took the leap and opened my mouth. I shared with my community that I was stepping out in faith and starting down a new career path of public speaking. Almost immediately I was propositioned with staring a podcast designed to talk to young legacy builders who were willing to share their story to inspire others.

So here we are, almost a year after that conversation. I am putting out into the world the result of my first push.

Christian Noel Johnson @ImperfectlyNoel

Christian Noel is a speaker, filmmaker, empowerment coach, and researcher whose work explores the relationships between belonging, leadership, community, and legacy. She is the creator of The Friendship Famine, a developing film and research project examining friendship, connection, and the social factors shaping modern relationships.

Christian also hosts The NxtUp BALLERS Podcast—Building A Lifelong Legacy—where she engages conversations around purpose, leadership, impact, and the stories people are leaving behind.

Additionally, she serves as Program Director for a local nonprofit organization supporting teens as they navigate identity, leadership, and future planning.

So… I heard I’m doing a TEDx Talk! ☺️

Even typing that feels WILLLDDD!!

There have been so many moments throughout this journey where I’ve questioned the timing, questioned myself, and probably asked God, “Are You SURE?” more times than I’d like to admit. LOLOL

And every time, He kept pushing me forward.

So here we are, incredibly grateful (and honestly slightly terrified lol) that I’ve been selected to take the @tedxklb stage!

This one means a lot because I’ll be talking about something that has grown from a question… to research… to community conversations… to something I now know I’m called to share.

God has a funny way of preparing you for rooms you didn’t know you’d be walking in and stages you never thought you would walk on.

I’m grateful I kept saying yes even when it was scary, and thankful to the KLB team for selecting me for this opportunity!

Leadership isn’t just about where you’ve been. It’s about what you’ve learned along the way.

We’re so grateful to have welcomed Christian Noel to guide our mentees through looking back at their leadership journey. Through thoughtful reflection, honest conversation, and even an interactive game, Christian challenged us to look back with intention so we can move forward with confidence.

Thank you, Christian, for reminding us that our experiences shape our purpose and that stepping fully into our leadership starts with believing in the value of our own story. 💛

Over the past two days, we loaded up the bus and took 40+ high school Scholars to visit the University of Cincinnati and Miami University.

We were OUTSIDE!! ☀️🔥 Between the summer heat, lots of walking, and full campus tours, they complained some, but never stopped asking questions, exploring, and imagining what their futures could look like.

One of my favorite parts of both visits was hearing from current students, alumni, faculty, and staff who took time out of their day to pour into our Scholars. A huge thank you to them for sharing their stories, their advice, and what made their college journeys meaningful. Those conversations matter more than you know.

As one of the many hats I wear, serving as Program Director for @gaddis4kids Compass Program continues to be one of the most rewarding. Helping young people see what’s possible, exposing them to new environments, and watching them begin to picture themselves on a college campus is exactly why we do this work.

This is only the beginning. More campuses. More opportunities. More futures being explored.

Did you catch this week’s episode? 👀

In this special Father’s Day episode, when asked how he defines legacy, @mikebfilms didn’t talk about money or accomplishments.

He talked about his kids.

His hope? That if they ever face a difficult season, they can look back at something he created and find the encouragement they need.

Maybe legacy isn’t just what we leave ‘for’ our children.

Maybe it’s what we leave ‘with’ them.
