Hello you sweet souls. I’m somewhat emerging from my summer cocoon, tear-stained but somehow holding a new body of work and a place to share it with you in person. I’ll be doing my very first market event, so if you’re local to Portland, OR, mark your calendar for September 26th!

It’s been so nice being able to soak up the sun, play in the dirt, and weave the grass; and very humbling to work both in extensive solitude, and cracked open and held by fellow flowers. In my grief, I grew a garden. 🌸

Two months ago we had to say goodbye to our sweet precious rainbow angel, Sindri, and my heart was shattered. It’s taken me two months just to put these photos together and probably rest of my life to adequately express what a special being he was. (Swipe through the photos to read more)

He was more than just a cat. I’ve met and had cats all my life but he was truly one of a kind.

My little shadow. My soot sprite. My angel, too good for this world.

Shortly after we adopted him, he started having health issues that resulted in so many vet visits over the years, trying everything we could to fix him, with ultimately no answers as we tried to give him the absolute best life possible.

We never took a single moment for granted, and every day I said it was heaven on earth because it truly was with Sindri.

My favorite part of every day was going to bed for our nightly cuddles, sleeping right between me and Matt every single night.

And every time I had to leave the house I couldn’t wait to come back home to him.

Nearly every time he wanted to go outside I obliged, often shirking my duties, often taking my computer outside to work in the grass.

We went outside no matter the weather, he loved it so much. I could watch him watch the world and play in the grass for hours. I was so excited to spend another summer in the garden with him.

And he was the sweetest soul. He would never hurt a fly, and would only gently pet the ants trailing through the kitchen.

If you ever did a photoshoot at my house, he was guaranteed to test the set and lighting beforehand,

or visit you and say hi.

He was there for every editing session, every email,

right beside me for every piece of art, every painting,

every movie prop,

every moment I was sad or angry or scared or stressed.

I could look into his eyes and see everything that was really important, everyone and everything I really love.

It still doesn’t feel real. It won’t ever feel real. I was always afraid he thought his name was Angel because of how much I called him that, and I still expect to see him around every corner, or waiting patiently for us to go outside together and walk through the lupine.

This morning we had to say goodbye to Sindri and my heart is shattered. Here’s some photos from the last few months. He was far too good for this world, my little angel baby. My little flower bud. Literally the perfect kitty, I truly don’t know how we got so lucky. Last night he got to eat real salmon and this morning we got to go out in the backyard one last time, and he just wanted to lay down right next to me. 💔 I already miss our cuddles, I miss gardening and looking over to see him basking in the sun, I miss him zooming through the yard getting soaking wet in the rain, I miss watching him watch the birds, I miss painting with him, feeding him fancy salmon, brushing his rainbow fur … oh my sweet baby boy. 💔 by @impulsings

One night in Tokyo we found ourselves roaming among a ton of outdoor restaurants. I became enthralled with the lights and the textures especially with the rainy atmosphere. Everyone looked like they were having such a delightful time. by @impulsings

One day in small town Japan, we went to visit a shrine. Since it was a holiday, people were gathered for a big community meal. We tried to leave quickly to not bother them, but they insisted we stay and we were heartily offered bamboo and mushroom soup fresh from the pot, cold beers, and sweet teas. My sister translated as best she could and we got to learn about each other - and even learn that we all lived in Alaska at one point. They took a group photo of all of us together. It was so special. What a small, beautiful world. We are all so close together. by @impulsings
