🎼 IMSLP Turns 20: A Benefit Gala Concert

For 20 years, IMSLP (the Petrucci Music Library) has given musicians, students, and scholars around the world free access to the sheet music they need. This October, we’re marking that milestone with our first-ever in-person concert— a benefit gala presented in support of the newly launched Petrucci Music Foundation!

The program will feature pianists Alessio Bax and Lucille Chung, violinist Daishin Kashimoto (Concertmaster, Berlin Philharmonic), and the Balourdet Quartet, performing works by Mozart, Clara Schumann, Mendelssohn, Enescu, and Reicha. Several selections are part of the Petrucci Music Foundation’s New Editions Project— newly prepared critical editions drawn from primary sources.

Proceeds from the evening support the Petrucci Music Foundation’s mission and initiatives: preserving and expanding free access to the world’s musical heritage, for musicians everywhere.

The latest episode of IMSLP’s Artist Interview Series is live! We sat down with @rufuswainwright and Grammy-nominated arranger/conductor @chriswaldenmusic to discuss their reimagining of Kurt Weill in Rufus’s new album “I’m A Stranger Here Myself”, how classical traditions anchor modern orchestration, and what it really means to demand that the orchestra “play ball” with dynamic vocal storytelling.

Plus, plenty of lively debates along the way....including which composer Chris and Rufus would get dinner with (spoiler: Rufus has his eye on a very specific hot Italian opera composer 🫢).

This conversation marks IMSLP’s very first crossover episode exploring the bridge between classical and pop, looking at how brilliant artists outside the traditional classical canon step into and reshape elements from our world. It’s the first of many exciting crossover features to come, so stay tuned.
